"The location of the hotel is strategic. It’s just next to hakuba bus station. The hotel also provided shuttle service to major attractions which reduce the hassle in arranging transportation"
"This ryokan was built 160 years ago and had a charming historical atmosphere. Our room accommodated four persons comfortably with air conditioning and we were welcomed with a pot of tea and treats in our room. We thoroughly enjoyed the onsite onsen for a peaceful, relaxing and private experience. The location was convenient for those visiting Zenkoji Temple and the surrounding shops. Many restaurants and shopping within walking distance."
"Great place to access the village and restaurants. A short walk to the Happo One bus terminal so it was easy to get to all of the ski areas of Happo Valley.
The staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast was a nice bonus that we weren’t expecting. "

The listing states "ski in / ski out access". This is untrue. The property is a 15 minute walk from the hotel. There are portions of the walk that are unsafe if there is snow in the side of the roads, busses and traffic have to stop and go around pedestrians. The ski shuttle stop is at the resort. Uber/Taxi was 12 USD one way at the time of our stay/this review.
There is no breakfast or food whatsoever at this hotel. There is one microwave for the entire hotel. It was...
"Staff nice , hotel showing its age but I think that’s everywhere in Japan . Boot room was in the basement which was a bit of a pain . The room we had do have a nice view to the mountains . The restaurant was actually nice even if it looked like a brightly lit sports bar "
"A traditional family run Ryokan right in the heart of the temple complex of Zeno-hi. An amazing experience of a Japanese room, and the accompanying culture of the Ryokan. The hotel is set into the fabric of Nagano tradition, being at an original temple site. Nearby eateries to suit all tastes. Easy access to central Nagano on frequent bus routes to the main JR station and 600m downhill to the local Denetsu station at Zenkoji for a day out to Obuse."
"Great slice of cabin in the woods humble abode. Clean and warm. You will need a car with AWD and snow tires if visiting in the winter. Beware though, there are monkeys in the woods and they come out in the warm late afternoon. While they're incredible to see, they're smart so keep your food close, snap some pictures and steer clear of them. "
"The cottage has everything a family needs but the communications around check-in was very poor and hotels.com's customer service was unwilling to provide any assistance. I would have thought some level of quality control helped justify hotels.com's commission. Either way, the cottage is managed by the building next door and this is where you need to go to collect the key. "
