Winking Owl at Hoot Owl Hollow is a romantic, loft-style cabin designed for couples who appreciate comfort, design, and a peaceful wooded setting — all within walking distance of downtown Mentone.

The open floorplan creates an intimate atmosphere, where the queen bed, freestanding soaking tub, gas fireplace, and living space flow together in one thoughtfully designed room. Large windows frame wooded views, giving the cabin a light-filled, airy feel.

The fully equipped kitchen with gas range offers generous storage and workspace. A second flexible room includes a queen Murphy bed and fold-down desk, making it ideal for remote work or an additional guest. The primary bath features dual vanities and a walk-in shower.

Step outside to enjoy the covered deck with rocker and high-top table for two, a private firepit with firewood provided, and an outdoor shower for a touch of mountain adventure.

Winking Owl is one of three cabins on 12 wooded acres at Hoot Owl Hollow. Guests can cross a small bridge over a seasonal creek and explore a simple walking trail behind the property.

Nearby attractions include Mentone’s village shops and restaurants (a short walk), Brow Park, DeSoto Falls (3 miles), DeSoto State Park (9 miles), and Little River Canyon (18 miles). Wildlife such as deer, turkey, and owls are frequently seen throughout the woods.

We loved the layout of the cabin. The view from most of the windows was of the woods which made it feel more private. The kitchen had sufficient dishes and cookware and would have been easy to prepare a meal. We enjoyed the fire pit one day. There were plenty of towels and other amenities. We did have an issue with the mini split but it was resolved quickly. The large acorns hitting the metal roof was noisy at times but didn’t prevent sleep.

My stay was fantastic. The cabin was clean and well organized with enough space for me to comfortably accommodate my stay. It was also close to several local shops, state parks and larger restaurants.

We were a little hesitant to book because there are other places fairly close together. But, they thought of everything and arranged it so that it is still private enough you can sit by the fire pit in your PJs. We had a wonderful time at this super cute place.

Very pretty cabin with all the amenities. Very peaceful getaway. Cabin actually felt larger than it was with a great layout. Owner was great with communication. Only negative was some kind of permanent stain in tub, but there was 2 separate showers to use. Kitchen has all the amenities. Cabin was very clean.

The Perfect Place

This place was like a little home away from home. It was so clean and tidy and decorated so craftily. It was quiet and private. The host was easy to contact and very generous with the amenities. We didn't long for a thing while we were there. The town is minutes within walking distance and the shops and cafes are wonderful! The Winking Owl is a magical place where time stands still. We'll definitely return on our next vacation.

Great place for a quick getaway!

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend. We didn’t arrive until after dark and the house was brightly lit for our arrival. The motion censored lights outside were a plus as it’s very dark. Cabin itself was clean, decorated well, and has new appliances. Convenient to all the things in Mentone. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.
