"OK - this place is not the Ritz, but nor does it claim to be. Straightforward affordable accommodation which is ideal for the convention centre over the road. There’s no communal space, food service etc. but for a clean, comfortable, no nonsense overnight you can’t really go wrong."

"Horrendous switch for bathroom blew the electrics, spark came from switch, big bang. Given another room, no explanation. Second room was supposed to be an upgrade, looked like room had been updated, but carpet was badly stained. Headboard coming away from the wall, they tried to hold it on with a bracket. Towel warmer 2 broken brackets one very sharp when removing the towels. Fan in bathroom very very loud, wake others up in the night. Toilet doesn’t flush properly. Soft close broken on toilet seat. Lots of noise from outside, but they are the original windows, so difficult to stop this. There is a door at the top of a steep set of stairs that opens onto the stairs, you have to balance with luggage whilst pulling it towards you, unsafe. "

"Quiet hotel, helpful staff, particularly the young staff, eager to make your stay a nice stay, I did notice an older staff member answering a young staff member with a direct answer and not with the courtesy I’m sure she would have wanted from him in the breakfast area, but the young man just walked to the greeting area and carried on, well done to him but shame on her, it stayed with me for a while, this was this morning Sunday 17th May."

"Old shower controls I found hard to use. I had a problem with the door, but a maintenance man came quickly to fix it!"

"The room was ok on arrival if you look past the stains on the carpet and hole in the hand towel. When I opened the hand towel a big clump of dark brown hair fell out of it. Made me feel sick. Staff were nice. Check in was horrendous with only one person on the desk so a massive queue had formed. They take £100 off your card “in case” you spend anything on your room during your stay. Parking is ridiculous at £18 a night and a tiny car park it’s difficult to find a spot. Preparations for a wedding stopped us using the overflow car park. Restaurant food was barely ok and very expensive. We were asked if we’d like water for the table then charged £4.50 for the pleasure. Saying that breakfast is wonderful with lots of choice. The spa treatments were fully booked all weekend due to the wedding but the pool etc was available. Don’t use the lockers. If you’re lucky enough to get into one you won’t be able to use it again to get your belongings back as the locks are dodgy. The reception staff have to come in and smash the door off to get you your things out. They advertise free WiFi but we could never log on. The TV doesn’t connect either so only the usual channels to watch. All in all with the tired rooms, poor parking and poor food the stay is overpriced and definitely not a luxury stay. I wouldn’t go back."

"This was a lovely Inn. It was spotlessly clean everywhere and very well maintained. The staff were all friendly. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice for everyone. We had a room in one of the ouside lodges with a bacony. These were in a block of 6, 3 at the front overlooking the grounds and gardens and 3 at the back with views of trees. The back rooms had a problem with seeds from the trees dropping all over our balcony and on the seating area. I felt sorry for the room maid having to clean those rooms as the seeds trod in everywhere. However this did not detract from our break and the management our trying to deal with the problem. Rooms at the front would be better but not as private as the back ones. South Stainley is a quiet place within easy reach of Harrogate. Our room had everything needed. The towels were large and of excellent quality. Beds very comfortable and we both slept like logs on both nights. We enjoyed our stay . Thank you"

"Nice hotel only issues I had was parking can be a nightmare and even though reserved parking is offered cones are moved and your space is lost. Shower water pressure is terrible and needs improving. "
