The Trail Inn was cute and charming right in the center of amana. You could walk to all the shops and restaurants near by to the cutest German stores. The rooms were clean and well kept and staff was attentive if there were any questions.
I was very happy with my stay at the Trail Inn in Amana. The location is perfect. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is walkable.
My room was incredibly clean. The bed was quite comfortable. The air conditioner was top-notch! It actually went down to 60 degrees!!!! Because the heat index was over 100, I definitely used it.
Would absolutely stay here again!
Impressed that the refrigerator has a freezer section with its own door. And the shower head is really good. But the drain in the tub is slow, so you might be taking a bath after all. And if the door closes on its own, it doesn’t latch. You have to pull it shut to lock the room.
What a nice spot. The check in was completely automated - but very simple and much more pleasant than a couple previous places we encountered. This one was simple - you get a message with a code and you type that code on a screen and a little box opens with your key. It’s just like using an Amazon locker or similar.
It was super quiet. Very clean. Comfortable, and really in a nice spot walkable to the whole village.
The room was well appointed, the AC worked well, and the only staff I interacted with was cleaning staff the next day. They were super friendly.
It was a good price, and parking was easy.
We had previously stayed at the Guest House Motel for a number of years under the previous owners that were very friendly and accommodating. We found out that the motel was purchased and reopened as the Trail Inn.
We were at first surprised at the fact that there is no one in the lobby to check in. Most communications were made by text message. We were text messaged a code that we used to open a key safe inside the lobby. It was very easy to get our room key. We were also told in the text message that any problems that we may have we should text and someone will take care of it as soon as possible.
Luckily one of the owners happened to be standing in the lobby as we commented how strange is was to check into a hotel this way. He told us that this enabled the motel to offer higher wages to the maintenance staff so that they could get better employees. So we thought that made sense.
We stayed in the newer motel and the room was remodeled very nicely with new paint and new carpeting. Keurig coffee maker in room provided with coffee and tea. We were pleasantly surprised at what was done in the room.
We love staying in the Amana Colonies so we were so glad that the motel was open again and the new owners are working on getting everything remodeled inside and out.
Would recommend the Trail Inn!

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The two rooms over my stay, were excellent to beyond excellent. The second was as good as the first but needed to have wooden furniture replaced. Someone recently purchased the place and is in the process of renewing it. When it came to structural issues, all appeared brand new. Breathtaking in the sense of a renewed property. Carpet, walls, bathroom and so forth. The halls were similar. The exterior showed how far the interior must have come. Painting or siding replacement is in order along with related issues. The paint is coming off in sheets. Undoubtedly they will do what is necessary. A chain of some sort purchased the place.
The check in was another story. The materials used the term self check in. That means that there is no one on site, but the cleaning lady. After some frustrations, a button was pushed to connect me with the "front desk". A very nice lady appeared on a screen and led me through the process. I was just glad that there were no other clients waiting in line. A forgotten question arose and resulted in another button push. A new lady supposedly in a front desk somewhere appeared and dealt with my issue in good order.
The whole experience left me with a feeling of unease. There were no phones in the room for contact for emergency assistance. No one to provide help at a moment's notice. For an 80 year old, it was a bit unsettling to realize that is was like tent camping in a sense. Customer service was the pall hanging over it all.
Easy access parking. Staff on site very helpful, room was clean and AC kept up even with the severe heat wave it was very refreshing after being outside all day.
Check-in was different. Use your reservation code to unlock your key. then check the map to see where your room is. The room was clean. The unit is updated but old it comes with a refrigerator with a freezer a coffee maker. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioner worked well. Fine for the price.
The hotel was extremely central to everything. It was clean, the beds and pillows very comfortable. While there is no staff on site, I had a question about the ice machine, so I sent a text and it was replied to very quickly.
If, ever in the area again, we would stay here and I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
The checkin was something I'd never used, but went well. Room very clean & it was quiet in the evenings. Parking was very convenient & very assessable to the ahops.
