"My room was in an annexe with no window, there was a skylight in the corner but the only way to open it and open and close the blind was to stand on a rickety chair. In the bathroom the grabrail by the bath was hanging off the wall so I would be very worried about grabbing it while getting in or out of the bath. Overall the furniture was not the best quality with wonky drawers not closing. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. Overall it was fine but u would probably choose a different...

"We had a lovely weekend stay at this hotel, which is only a 10 minute walk from the city centre and close to York’s many attractions. Our air conditioned room was very clean, with a comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, dressing table, hairdryer, iron, tv and plenty of power sockets. "Lovely hotel created from several historic buildings into a modern facility. Very pleasant reception and lounge area with bar. The rooms were clean and to a high standard, roomy and with a good shower room. There is a lot of interesting artwork throughout. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We booked two rooms. Room servicing is only on request, we asked our rooms to be made up each day, sadly our friends room was not properly made up on arrival and servicing of the rooms was a bit hit...

"Our room was in the Old Swan,it is a property that the Old Lodge must own. It's a few minutes walk from the lodge.It was ok but wouldn't stay again. Breakfast was lovely,fresh fruit, croissants, everything cooked to order. The only niggle was that we went for a drink in the lounge about 9 o clock,and it was just staff stood there ,one was swearing,which I don't think was acceptable in a posh establishment and while guests were present . Check in staff were lovely,but we won't be staying again."

"Really great hotel with so much attention to detail. Record players in the room and a huge selection of records is a really nice touch. The Radio was on when we arrived to our room and the Pantry is generous & a really unique touch. Canadian lady on the Bar was knowledgeable & super friendly (Pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the extensive bar menu was priced). Just really really cool & great location."

"The staff at Ascot House were great. The breakfasts are pretty much set with some exceptions if you don't like something, the chef tries to accommodate when it's possible which is a great thing to be able to offer. The owner June does a great job with keeping Ascot House friendly and accessible to all people. We had a lovely time staying here and visiting York."

"We stayed at Woodhall hotel and spa for 4 nights in the lodges. There was not much natural light entering the room and noise can be heard from the adjoining room The building could do with some refurbishment The views and gardens are beautiful The staff were really excellent and nothing was too much trouble The food was equally good with some fabulous combinations and flavours and, they have an interesting wine list, if slightly on the pricey side.
