"It's above a restaurant in an original older building, so there are several flights of stairs to negotiate with no lifts/elevators (which didn't bother me in the slightest, although I was offered help with my luggage which I didn't need). I chose a room with a fantastic view over the port, and even though the area was busy with many restaurants etc, the two sets of double-glazed windows meant that the room was quiet when closed. The breakfast I ordered in my room arrived on the dot of 10.00 as requested and was excellent - the croissant and pain au chocolat were beautifully light and crisp - the best I have had; the other items were equally good, and having it overlooking the port with the windows open was a real bonus. I should also say that I had a problem with the timing of my taxi to the airport which was to arrive during the time when the reception is not open (12.00 - 15.00), as I had left my luggage after check-out and they went out of their way to accommodate me, which I may say is indicative of their genuine friendliness. When I return to La Rochelle in the future, I will certainly be staying in this hotel!"
