When you are interested in military history, the fortresses of the defense line of Amsterdam are a must see. Build around 1900, it consists of some 46 fortresseses, batteries, dikes, dams and locks. The enemy was partly kept out by inundating the land outside the defense line. The invention of the airplane was a real spoiler for military strategists...

"Awesome place worth the price "

"It is a beautiful, modern, and clean chalet. The location is perfect if one wants to visit the city of Amsterdam. Please note that you must rent the towels for seven dollars per set. Also, we needed to make a special arrangement for check-in after 5:00 PM. It was somewhat noisy since the chalet appeared to be close to an airport. It was a convenient and cozy place to stay."

"We loved this home! This canal house provided a very unique experience for our family. It was simply charming! We spent several nights in this home and enjoyed both Edam and Amsterdam. We rented bikes one day for local riding. Another day we took the bus (quick & easy) into Amsterdam. The last morning, we simply walked the streets of Edam enjoying the bakeries and quiet streets.The host was very helpful - even checking on us when our arrival was later than expected. Lots of walking or biking paths.Only criticism is our cabin had furniture that had pointed edges and as it was small it wasn't practical. Other than that we enjoyed our short stay here."
