Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo PREMIER

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo PREMIER

10/10 Excellent
"The hotel is brand new and in pristine condition, but there were some notable operational quirks. It doesn’t seem like management is able to decide whether this is a luxury property or a select service hotel - even though there were two reception desks staffed at all times, the staff were actively pushing customers to use the three self-service kiosks for all operations (check-in, breakfast coupons, check-out) and actually doing the work for them on those machines. Not sure what the point of that was or whether it should be the case in a luxury property. Similarly, the public bath in the basement is pretty underwhelming, if pristine. All that said, the rooms were spotless, staff were very helpful and spoke English impeccably, and breakfast was great both in terms of food selection and quality."

Onyado Nono Kyotoshichijo Natural Hot Springs

Onyado Nono Kyotoshichijo Natural Hot Springs

8/10 Good
"There are lots of amenities here -like the public bath and the big fancy breakfast- but assume you will need to compete for every resource, from a breakfast table to a shoe locker. The lobby felt like a combination of a college dorm and an airport gate. Things are generally good in your room, and all supplies were in order. Walls are thin enough I was woken up by my neighbor’s alarm every morning. Breakfast waits at 6:45 AM were about 45 minutes. I spilled some hand wash soap on the area in front of the sink and learned that the floor was not nearly as clean as it appeared."

THE BLOSSOM KYOTO

THE BLOSSOM KYOTO

10/10 Excellent
"The staff were amazing. We were greeted by an employee who helped us check in, serving us a cappuchino and croissant while we completed the necessary online forms. The checkout was done through a machine (similar to our hotel in Tokyo). An employee saw us starting the process and quickly came over to help us. Everyone was very friendly and helpful - certainly made our stay delightful. The hotel was near Kyoto station, though we regretted walking from the station and dragging our suitcases. We took a taxi for 1900 yen at the end of our stay. The breakfast was amazing - so many choices and honestly, I enjoyed everything that I tried. The room was very nice with a comfortable bed. I enjoyed being able to control all of the lights from my nightstand. I wish the shower had been a few degrees hotter, but that is really nitpicking."
