Superbly converted stables in beautiful countryside

  • The property is located in one of the Chiltern Hills most beautiful valleys in a quiet rural setting. Originally built as a wing to spectacular 18th Century barns, the stables have been converted to a very high standard, retaining many of the original features. Well equipped, the property provides comfort & convenience whilst enjoying privacy in its own walled courtyard with vines and colourful plants. The setting is rural and peaceful with our ducks and chickens wandering freely.

The area is a walker’s paradise with the famous Ridgeway nearby for the serious or several delightful walks on the doorstep for the more casual. Also popular with cyclists.

Close to rail links to London & West country, 10 miles from M4 & M40, Heathrow 28 miles. Horse riding, golf, boat hire available locally.

If you are a fan of the TV series Midsomer Murders, check out the filming locations, to see the many pretty villages that are local to the cottage!

The Old Stables have been very cleverly converted into a unique and spacious self-contained apartment with every facility thought of and made available, including unexpected items that enriched the experience of staying there, some of which we never got around to using.Everywhere was very clean and inviting with lovely bedding and towels and the generous space upstairs held twin beds, chairs and a TV which would be ideal for families with children. Our hosts were really helpful and keen for us to enjoy our visit and we felt very at home from the moment we met them.

Beautiful stay in a rural idyll

The Stables is a fabulous play to stay, nestled in the heart of the Chilterns, with Red Kites circling in the valley. Well equipped and comfortable, it is a great base to walk from and a short drive to Henley/Wallingford with great pubs nearby too.

Superb Cottage and location

The cottage was just perfect for a do nothing weekend. We have an elderly dog who loved the spacious garden and meadow. The cottage was just right and the hearth was a welcome addition to be lit in the evening. Location and local pubs and places to eat were excellent. Thank you so much Jenny, we’ll be back!

Walking the Ridgeway

A comfortable quirky cottage in a converted stable. It has everything you could need and the owners are friendly and helpful. The free roaming geese and duck plus their eggs were a bonus. There are ducklings on their way and we were sorry to miss their hatching.

Characterful cottage in fair condition, kitchen a little tired. For us the issue was the shared driveway, the close proximity of the owners house, the provision of only a single key, and too frequent interactions initiated the owners (for example, on one occasion they interrupted a work call by repeatedly knocking on the door until I answered). All of that meant we did not feel it was our own space and we were not able to relax. The EV charger has a tendency to trip out now and then, I was repremanded by the owner for resetring it; we were glad to be leaving the day after that interaction.

Lovely week away in a cosy cottage with a quiet location

We enjoyed a very comfortable week in this lovely cottage. It was perfect for the two of us, but had space to sleep four if needed. We slept in the upstairs bedroom, accessed via a steep staircase (wouldn't suit anyone with limited mobility), in the super-comfy, very large, zip and link bed. The room itself is very spacious, and has plenty of storage space. The second bedroom is in a converted stable, with its own bathroom, and lots of original character and features. The living room has a wonderful log fire, which came in very useful at this time of year. Plenty of kindling and logs were provided by the owners, along with instructions on how to use the fire for anyone not familiar with them. The cottage is attached to the owners converted barn, set in beautiful countryside at the end of a long, quiet country lane. It couldn't be more peaceful ! All in all, we had a most enjoyable stay, and would love to return.

Very interesting and comfortable stable conversion. we had glorious weather so made use of the outside area. Jenny and Robert were friendly and informative. The area is pretty rolling hills with beechwoods and plenty of good footpaths to explore. The bluebells were at their peak.

Spotlessly clean and very cosy and warm, a huge log burner and fantastically comfy beds. The welcome was warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. We really felt like guests. Highly recommend.

Peaceful and scenic

Jenny was v helpful with good communication. The cottage is extremely well organised with everything you would need for a self catering break. The upstairs bedroom was very comfortable and spacious although the stairs were not the easiest to negotiate. The one downside is that the central heating is controlled from the main house and we did feel a little uncomfortable asking for it to be switched on in the evening.

Beautiful garden

We absolutely love the garden, it’s spectacular. We sat in the garden whenever it’s dry and sunny outside. The property does not have heating control as it’s controlled by the main house which should have mentioned in the listing. The property is chilly and does not get much sun inside. Logs burner is provided unfortunately we couldn’t use it as we have 2 young toddlers running around. Jenny responded to our request instantly and turned on the heating for us. Overall all 4 of us enjoyed ourselves and slept upstairs instead of the downstairs.
