The southern shore of the Hood Canal in Union, Washington can be a great place for astrophotography - especially on a pleasant summer night.
Between the boats docked on shore, a higher position of Polaris in the night sky, and the beautiful rolling evergreen hills, there are plenty of great subjects to capture!
Ed and Ethel Dalby brought this wheel by boat from Seattle in 1924, where it had been employed as part of a cable car system (likely on Queen Anne Hill). They attached dredge buckets re-purposed from Seattle's Denny Hill regrade and generated enough electricity to power their home and several cabins until the 1940s.
