Breakfast was excellent, smoked salmon delicious and scrambled eggs cooked to perfection!
Everything was spot on, George, Gayle and the entire crew were excellent, hospitable and our stay was fantastic. We are definitely coming back and highly recommended!!
The room was clean, shower very powerful, needs a non slip tray, which I have suggested to the team. Bar very well stocked, although the day I arrived they had run out of sherry. I only dined on the first day, very good, pub style food, if a trifle expensive as compared to say the Exeter Inn in Modbury. Breakfast was good, service fine, staff friendly and efficient.
Beautiful setting by the river, with plentiful covered and riverside outdoor eating areas. Extremely helpful and pleasant staff. Great food!
Easy parking.
Note it's an old building so lots of stairs and windy passages to contend with if you have mobility issues.
The pub is in a fabulous position, the room we had was good and the staff friendly and helpful. Where it fell down was at dinner. I was there with my wife for our 56th wedding anniversary and was hoping for an excellent experience but the service was poor, I had to go up to the bar and ask for a menu after waiting for some time. Again I had to ask for someone to take our order, my second drink was waiting on the bar and I had to retrieve it myself. When food eventually arrived (rack of ribs) there was no finger bowl no bowl for bones. My wife mentioned this to the waitress and was told rather bluntly "you could have asked when I gave it to you" I thought this should not be necessary and the waitress was quite stroppy. The food was ok, ribs good, chips mediocre and salad undressed. Would stay there again but would eat up the road at the Maltster's.
This is what a pub should be..
Great staff, food was excellent..
Lovely setting by the river, our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable...
This pub is in the middle of nowhere but it seemed to be busy which is good sign of a great pub10/10
The room was very clean with everything you needed for the bathroom, loads of tea and coffee, clean kettle, lots of sockets for charging gadgets.
Breakfast was very good, lovely and hot.
Nice atmosphere in the bar and other eating places.
Staff very friendly, Paul and Gayle are excellent hosts made me very welcome.
Would stay again.
What an amazing hidden gem ! Beautiful old property next to river with kingfishers. Staff fantastic so accommodating with our needs . Lovely rooms , comfortable beds, en suites lovely modern and clean. Fresh smell throughout whole place. Evening meal fabulous and breakfast too . Highly recommend. Many thanks to Paul, Gail, George, McKenzie & Katie who all made our stay so good .
Great spot, so picturesque by the river. Room was very clean and pleasant. Staff lovely, very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. If looking for a break in a beautiful Devon pub, strongly recommend The Watermans Arms.
Incredibly gorgeous and cosy welcome - log fire burning! Lights twinkling. Friendly staff. Room was good for a family - but chilly but staff offered to turn up heating! Lovely pub and good food.
Staff very welcoming and friendly, on going into our family room deluxe I found a nightie hanging on the back of the bathroom door, Who ever supposedly cleaned that room obviously need’s a refresher course, the bathroom itself could do with a very good clean even a refurbishment, Breakfast was lovely good choice of food and again very attentive staff,
We have stayed in better superior rooms. There was also an undercover area directly outside our room and if that had been busy, the noise would have been unacceptable. Breakfast and location was amazing.
