The Space:
Kereru Creek by Tiny Away is a 20-minute drive from New Plymouth and just 5 minutes away from some of the beautiful west coast beaches. Surrounded by native bush and lush private gardens full of native birds, it’s the perfect place to unwind and relax. This coastal gem offers easy access to the famous surf spots along the Surf Highway and places you at the doorstep of some of New Zealand's most breathtaking hiking trails on Mount Taranaki. Enjoy the great local café culture and fantastic nearby restaurants.
A cozy 139-square-foot tiny home that offers a private space in a beautiful garden location with ocean views and a backdrop of the Kaitake Ranges. It features convenient access to UV-filtered water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas-heated for hot showers).
IMPORTANT NOTE: Kereru Creek will be part of this year’s Sustainable Taranaki Backyards Garden Festival. The property will be open to the public from 31 October to 9 November 2025. During these dates, please note that visitors may be walking past the tiny house.
Please note that there may be some road noise on Saturday mornings as people head to nearby beaches, as well as during busy commuter times in the morning and early evening.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and surrounding areas, including the gardens and native bush. Please note that private property areas are clearly marked, and we kindly ask guests to refrain from crossing into marked private property.
Please note that there may be some road noise on Saturday mornings as beachgoers head to nearby beaches, as well as during busy commuter times in the morning and early evening. We also have a working food forest and kitchen gardens that are available for tours. If you’re interested, please contact your host 24 hours in advance.
The Neighborhood:
Kereru Creek by Tiny Away sits in the rural coastal settlement of Tataraimaka, only a scenic 20-minute drive from New Plymouth, winding through picturesque landscape, and is just 5 minutes away from some of the stunning west coast beaches.
Our local recommendations include Egmont National Park for tramping and incredible views. Visit Pukeiti Garden to see world-class rhododendrons and take a walk through the rainforest. Explore the Wild West Coast beaches with their black sand and striking cliffs. The Taranaki Garden Festival runs in October and November, alongside Sustainable Backyards, the Fringe Garden Festival, and the Taranaki Arts Trail.
For dining, try Black Sands, Butlers Reef, or Holy Guacamole in Oakura. Oakura cafés include High Tide, Rainforest Cafe at Pukeiti Gardens, and Bach on Surf Highway. For groceries, stop by Four Square Oakura or Countdown Spotswood.

- You will need our own car to get to the property. There are limited public transport options.
Other Things to Note:
- Pets are not allowed
- Please expect free-roaming chickens
- BBQ grill (gas) is available
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- All mobile networks have strong signal reception.
- We have recycling & composting bins available for your use
- No smoking anywhere on the property
- We also have a lovely Labrador dog on the property who may come and say hi.
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
NOTICE: Please note that there are beehives on the property, and we advise keeping your distance at all times. If you have a severe allergy to bees, this environment may not be suitable. We highly recommend that you carry an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) for your safety if you are allergic to bees.
Important note:
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your
understanding.
