The check-in was really good the lady showed us the room and how the key worked she was really friendly. But the bed was way too hard and we didn’t sleep well.
A unique hotel with historic features in the lovely canal town of Stone. Hotel central to activities and sights in town. Has a great Indian restaurant on ground floor and other good restaurants close by. No elevator but staff helpful with luggage. I would stay here again.
First room given was quite awful we were then given a room each (2sisters) and they were lovely recently refurbished staff were all very friendly and helpful

Staff were helpful and friendly, beds comfortable food in info-Chinese restaurant within hotel was fantastic.
Downside, toilet roll holder was hanging off, shower was too hot to use and TV not working.
Good room for an overnight stay, i wouldn’t want to stay in it any longer than that as the window looked out onto a brick wall.
Average room, comfortable and clean

We booked the hotel for attending a wedding nearby.
The hotel restaurant was an Indian, which would have been perfect for me, but unfortunately did not suit my wife. However, Stone is a really nice town, with plenty of alternative choices to dine.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, and setting up for our un-booked breakfast was nice of them.
It was a perfect location for us, right in the centre of town, with ample (free) parking.

ok for a quick stop over
on check in they took £20 pre-authorisation off my credit card, everywhere else i stay no money is taken, await to see if it is refunded,
Car park authorisation is in place which was an issue for some in previous reviews.
Food in restaurant was good.
Room was tidy, shower was pretty useless.
My room was clean and comfortable but terrifically hot. There was no air conditioning or even a fan when the temperature was 32°C
The hotel itself smelt of mildew as you walked in.
A sole cyclist, good check in. Secure parking for my bike. An upgrade on a room. Good facilities, lots of hot water. Clean fluffy towels, comfortable bed. Smart TV, tea coffee, bathroom soap etc. quiet night. Full breakfast, juice, coffee toast, croissant, jam butter and a fried English. Very good.
Would return, the building is old, a bit run down, but lots of character.

Hotel with potential
The hotel overall was ok, parts look luxurious but some is very basic. Our room was on the main road which was very noisy and being warm we wanted the window open but it wasn’t possible due to the outside noise, although we appreciate the hotel can’t do anything about the road. The restaurant was also closed for refurbishment during our stay.
I would say the staff were amazing, very helpful, friendly and welcoming.
Hotels.com advertise free parking at the hotel, which changed a while back, so the staff waived the cost for us.
I would say the hotel is possibly going through a gradual refurbishment and has potential to be a very lovely hotel.
The room was fine. Money has obviously been spent on updating the hotel, maybe a bit more needs to be spent to improve things. For example, the bathroom had been upgraded, new bath, hand basin, shower; but the tiling and grouting had not been finished. Also the bath was very slippery so maybe provide a bath mat. Also, we were only provided with two bath towels, no hand towels or bath mat. As we only stayed one night, it wasn’t a problem but for longer stays, the additional towels would have been needed. That said, it’s always a pleasure to stay in such an historic building.
You had to provide your own login details for the TV (Netflix, ITVX etc) if you wanted to watch. There was no Internet connectivity to access the TV or social media, email etc. A £20.00 damage depisit was taken & will not be returned until after 5-10 working days & im actually surprised if they will be able to distinguish if i or previous guests have caused any damage. The decorations & bed were brand new - in the 1970s. No hot water for a shower. Needi continue?

Ok, here's what was a beautiful Georgian hotel with the front registered as a listed building. No one has done any maintenance work on the front. There are cracks in mortar and one cracked window. There is still what looks like bin liners holding the roof on. And that has been like that for years. Now under another management, they ate least have some beers on tap and lemons behind the bar. which they didn't have a few years ago. I actually went out and bought them some lemons one year.
The website says the rooms have been refurbished. Hmmm. I had a broken light switch. A toilet that I had to take apart to fix the flush system. Shower taps I could hardly turn one off or regulate the temperature. In one corridor, a door marked "PRIVATE" had been kicked in and was hanging off its hinges. Some one could at least have shut it and hidden the line store.
"Each room is meticulously designed to provide a neat and inviting ambiance." My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a long and interesting menu but none of it available at lunchtime.
It's in a great position, right on the High Street but it is slowly falling to bits. It needs a ton of money spending on and I doubt anyone ever will spend that money. It's one thing tidying up the rooms a bit the reputation is becoming a bit of a joke.
Parking was good but I would never stay again, staff were nice but really seemed not to know what to do with complaints. Towels were small and thin so seemed old, small hand towel had a large hole in the middle, bathroom apart from being small had not been cleaned, toilet roll was nearly finished so obviously used by previous guests, shower had lots of mould and as I had no option other than to use it, had foot spa as water didn’t run away as it should down the plug hole .
It was very dated and smelt foist lthroughout, lots of doors banging throughout night and traffic noise
Only there for a short stay or would definitely have moved out,
Would not recommend
Do not stay here if you value your safety or privacy. Front desk staff duplicated our room key and handed it over to an unauthorized stranger couple. We only discovered this catastrophic security failure because the couple who walked into our private room were honest enough to tell us what happened—the hotel staff and tracking systems had absolutely no idea they had compromised our room. When we confronted the manager, her response was shockingly dismissive and entirely unacceptable. She told us, "We aren't a 5-star hotel, what do you expect?" and later asked, "What do you want me to do, put security on every door?"Basic room security and guest safety are legal requirements, not luxury perks. Management refuses to take responsibility, and the parent group corporate email bounces back. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

Location is convenient and room was clean, but no towels?? Given that I arrived late, I only discovered this in the morning leaving for an early start.
