Just by the Skyland amphitheater is a building, on the top of an incline, facing west to Luray down below. There are four rooms here all with this breathtaking view made all the more gorgeous as the sun travels overhead and changes the color of the world below. At night, the stars are so vibrant that they can be seen while laying in bed. In the evening, the sunset is such an explosion of color it paints the walls. But in the early morning hours as the sun rises, it climbs on the other side of the mountain and slowly, gently, spreads over the valley floor. On this particular morning, it was below freezing and fog spread out through the valley, looking like a white ocean with waves that billowed and changed. The sun slowly burned away the fog, exposing a frost-covered land, and for a moment it felt like we were viewing the depths of a snowflake.

If you go to Skyland Resort in Shenandoah, spend the extra bucks for a good room with a view. Nearly all rooms overlook this valley in some way, but we splurged for a king bed and were so lucky to see this sight every morning with a warm cup of coffee in hand.

"We were there only for an overnight, but had enough time to visit local\downtown restaurants, shops and brewery. Easy walk to everything. Just park your car at the Inn and go. Short drive to hiking. Safe, everybody I walked by said "hi" before I could. The room was spacious, bed was comfortable, water was hot. I don't know how many other people were staying at the Inn while we were there, but the one person we met was friendly and quietly reading on the swing on the front porch. Nicely...

"We were very pleased about the property. One concern the ice machine, on the floor near the lobby, was not working. The agent at the front desk was okay. Had some answers to our questions but others nothing. Example: The TV was not working. He offered to move us but we were settled in. He then gave us the password and when used it the TV worked fine. "This property is incredible, the mountain views plus the river access makes this place feel like a resort. Here are some tips:-If you're adults escaping a toddler and trying to sleep in, bring a sleeping mask, the morning sun is bright!-At the river there are trails, if you go to the right (facing the river) there is a rocky area that is great for stepping into to cool off, no river mud (thinks Nina for tip!)-this place is amazing for fishing especially with kids, we caught countless fat sunnies and chased a huge muskie all weekend that we failed to catchThe location is great and if it had been a bit cooler we would've ventured into Shenandoah,, instead we enjoyed some air conditioned flea markets during the day and the views/fishing at night. Perfection. "
