"Michael at the front desk was warm and very helpful"

"Lovely grounds and dining area. Corridors in our accommodation block were somewhat shabby and in need of updating. Paint was peeling on the bathroom door. Double bed was standard rather than king. Room amenities were fine, suited our needs. Breakfast was more than adequate although there was a delay in replacing some hot food. Very convenient location."

"Beautiful setting with a upmarket vibe around the complex. Entrance lobby and reception very smart. Staff were helpful. We decided on the cheaper windowless room knowing there was a skylight with natural light. But skylight blind was broken . Room was not cleaned or replenished over the two day stay. Leisure facilities were very good but at £10 per visit per person remember to bare this in mind in price comparisons. Food was reasonable but quite pricey for what it was. All said I would return...

À la carte breakfast was also very good but there was no fruit offered which I was disappointed with. Times were also a little tight from breakfast, dinner, room cleaning and checkout but it was a small hotel so this is understandable. I would definitely stay here again. Thankyou."

"Stayed for IOW festival for one day and was everything needed and staff so friendly and helpful and good value for the festival weekend although very basic but that’s fine it was as expected."

"Room was super hot, and old. Shower was rusty. The bed was the smallest and most uncomfortable bed I've slept in. No one ever available at reception. And to top it all off spent an absolute fortune for one night. Do not recommend at all."

"We had a really great weekend at The Mayflower. A huge thank you to all the staff who were amazing and couldn’t do enough to assist with anything. The food was delicious and decent portions. Our room was big and airy with added little thoughtful touches. We will definitely be back guys, thank you"

"Kind of okay, but some of the staff were really bothered if you need anything or ask them a question. At the pub the staff were a bit weird and made us feel not welcomed. Most of them looked very tense and wanted you to get out of their faces quickly. Some of them were good. They should leave more milk bags in the rooms."

"This is easily the best hotel in Portsmouth- best location, easy included parking out front on. there own grounds. Large, traditional old hotel, but well kept. 24 hour bar for residents. Upmarket restaurant. One major drawback - no aircon in the bedrooms or the hallways stairs etc.: a big problem if you are there during a heat wave -36! - as I was. I would still book again though, but only in cooler weather."

"Good breakfast. I did speak with property about solo travellers being stuck at the back of the dining room. Why cant we have as good a table as anyone else? I am an experienced traveller and dont like being treated any differently to anyone else! Whole hotel and the grounds are georgeous though and I enjoyed my time there. My single room was nicely spacious."

"So extreme heat was the bug bear They were unable to cope air conditioning was not working making the stay unbearable Staff tho really could not be more honest Its not the fault of them at all Room was basic Lots of silly things a miss ,but clean and staff great A new lad was on the bar bless him in all the heat he pulled the best pint and topped it up so pleasant . Breakfast was nice ..however staff there on the tables were miserable :("

"Staff helpful, parking good, if not at the hotel plenty nearby. Walk to coast, buses nearby, shops nearby. If you take a dog there is a small park just a few minutes away."

"No working air-conditioning and no way to open the window during high temperatures outside. It was torture. The room was tiny but adequate for a short stay."

"The member of staff couldn’t find our booking and made us feel like we hadn’t booked it until I showed them the confirmation, but no apologies and said they were having IT issues, they then said the air conditioning hasn’t been working since May, but nothing mentioned on there web site, so it was a very uncomfortable stay and TBH I wouldn’t have booked that hotel as we are in a middle of a heat wave and staff were not helpful!!!! I have complained but not heard from them yet"
