Fantastic view of Shanghai buildings and train station. Very fancy room floor to ceiling windows, power curtains, Japanese toilet seat, with wood and marble features throughout. Checked into the room and had a fruit pate waiting for me.

I would to commend Jerome Qiu at the breakfast section for attending to my request to have the kitchen prepare a bowl of oatmeal with red beans added as well as provide me with apple, orange, banana, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. We checkin at 3pm and waited for 20mins on the queue which just has around 3/4 customers. Then I was told the room was not available and I could choose to downgrade. Then another 35mins I waited in the lobby for the room I booked. In the lobby I saw all these lousy scene people eating take aways and lying on sofa. I couldn’t imagine how they run this 5-stars like this .

Except the building outlook, I couldn’t find any trace of Intercontinental Hotel since I stepped in it. The interior is worn out and the worst is it carries a smell of Chinese liquor in the lobby restaurant and it is not managed up to the standard we are used to in other Intercontinental hotels. The only good experience we had is the visit to its Japanese restaurant which provided high quality cuisines.

No USB for charging and it's very outdated support. Everyone needs to pay for charging the phone. The paid charger is not even having enough power when I paid for a whole day of it it does not support for longer than an hour

The hard product at the property is very good. Spacious room, well appointed furniture, beautiful lobby, in a good location, and all at a reasonable price. The service was poor. Staff appeared well intentioned but poorly trained. For example, while waiting to check-in, a staff member at the front desk told us another desk was open for check-in and asked us to leave the line to go to that desk. The other desk was not open for check-in and we had to rejoin the line. No staff members helped us with luggage when we arrived. When we left, a manager had to prompt a staff member to help us with our luggage before he did so. He was not otherwise busy. He was just staring blankly when the manager prompted him. Overall, beautiful hotel with the potential to be great. We did not have a good service experience but we hope this is something the hotel improves in the future.
