I’ve stayed at this property before and same as last time, it was spectacular. Had an issue with the air conditioning in the master bedroom at check in which Vanessa, the property manager, quickly got resolved. She rocks!!!!! This location is peaceful, quiet and serene. Definitely a place I would recommend to others!!!!! Thanks to Bernard, the owner, for sharing his little piece of heaven with my family. Staying there is all Pura Vida, till next time, Tasha

Beautiful villa! Clean and beautifully decorated. It was just a few minutes walk from Ocotal beach. Stocked kitchen supplies, beach towels, and beach chairs, everything you need. Grill by pool was fun to use. Our party of 6 was very comfortable here. Father Rooster is within walking distance and made our whole trip very special. Amazing staff and delicious food. Not the best neighborhood but property was very safe. It is notable that the Coco Beach Club is not accessible as per advertised in this properties listing. This was a specific reason we chose the property and it was disappointing to be told “we don’t recommend you go there” AFTER we purchased, planned our trip, and arrived at the property.Owners family was very prompt in communicating, I had to nudge the local contact to get basics like confirmation of airport pickup, check-in instructions, and even a physical address/location of the property. Basics where I was told “you have this” and I didn’t not. Overall great property and I recommend.

Our family of five had a great week in Ocotal. Weather was amazing, Vanessa and Jorge helped organize fun adventures, and we loved Ocotal Beach. The snorkeling was excellent right off the beach. Coco Beach has lots of restaurants and is a quick but exciting 15 min drive. The condo pool was good but the one at Coco Beach Estates was nicer and had a gym. Having a bathroom for each bedroom was also nice. We had a few minor issues but Vanessa was quick to respond and resolve them. The condo itself is functional but not luxury.

We loved the location of this property. We could walk to the beach in 5 minutes, and walk to the beachfront restaurant and bar in 5 minutes. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony listening to the howler monkeys and watching them roam through the trees.

Amazing vacation

If you really want to enjoy the culture and locals of the island this is the place. We enjoyed the comfort and accommodations. it was home away from home. We were three couples that had our own bedrooms and baths. A car rental is a must. The gated community is very safe and close to nearby restaurants and activities.

Amazing Location!

This was an amazing place for our family to stay. It was extremely clean and beautiful. We really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony for coffee and reading while listening to the ocean waves. The beach was a leisurely 5 minute walk away and was a quiet mixed black and white sand with a fun tide pool to check out during low tide. Vanessa was very responsive with a wealth of local knowledge and contacts. We really enjoyed how quiet the community was yet was just a few minutes to shopping and activities at Coco Beach.

Perfect week in a perfect location!

We loved our stay in Bernard's Condo in Ocotal. The process was easy, clear, and friendly. Thank you, Bernard! The space was comfortable and attractive and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Just steps from the beach and a good 5k walking route in the Ocotal hills. We have already booked our return trip. Callie and Ethann

Absolutely Fantastic

A wonderful property. Excellent location. Vanessa had excellent communication with us the entire time. We had just gone through two previous cancellations by other hosts last minute, and were scrambling to find a place to stay. I can't say enough about Vanessa and her team. We look forward to staying here in the future! The location in Ocotol was great, close to the beach and Father Rooster's which is a fave of ours. Gated property, all the amenities, and the layout was great for us. Thank you Vanessa for looking after us so well, we look forward to our future friendship with you.

Ocotal

We really liked the quiet and relaxing vibe of this property. The pool was lovely and never busy. The beach was a short walk away and Father Roosters restaurant was also a short walk. From our front door we saw many birds, lizards, frogs and monkeys. The property was adequate and had air conditioning in each room which was nice. It is great to have a washer and dryer as well. We had lots of beach towels and some pool toys and a couple beach chairs. Vanessa was excellent and very helpful!

Just what we needed

This is a great property nestled in a very quiet location. The inside is just as described and pictured; modern, comfortable and clean. We had great communication with the manager both before and during our stay. There were monkeys coming and going in the trees around the property. The beach is a very easy 100 meter walk from the front door. The beach here is very nice with black sand and decent snorkeling. The only negative we could think of is the low water pressure for taking a shower, but I don’t think the owners could do anything about that.

Inside The Property Very Dated

We paid for 7 night stay at Bernard's but choose not to stay. Initially walked in and the main floor bedroom smelled of urine. As noted in other reviews the pictures inside were outdated. The bedding in 3 rooms looked like your Grandma's basement bedding. As mentioned in the listing it was seaside and you could hear the ocean waves. Neither were correct or accurate. Hired an uber and stayed at a beautiful modern resort Mar playa Hermosa for the same money we paid not to stay at Bernard's.

Great location

We spent two weeks in Bernard’s home. The location is great, very short walk to Ocotal Beach. We visited other beaches but quickly learned that Ocotal Beach is one of the best the area has to offer. Bernard is very responsive and resolved issues quickly (the coffee maker was on its last leg, he had Vanessa purchase and deliver new one the next day, in fact Vanessa brought her own coffee maker until she could get the new one. Over the top! Although the cleanliness is not five star, the response and attention you get from Bernard and Vanessa makes it five stars! One has to remember that Costa Rica is a tropical country. Thank you Bernard.

Family Getaway

This property is in a decent location, just a short walk to the beach, although you can hear the ocean from the villa, the view form the villa is not desirable for me because you can't see the ocean because of the weeds and garbage drop off.. The listing says private pool and a TV in every bedroom, but there is no private pool and there was not a TV in every bedroom. We did have internet, but it is not high speed and we lost connection several times making it impossible to work from there!

Great potential. Guest experience needs some TLC. First up the wrong combination is listed in the welcome package so getting thru gates was a (miss)adventure. Hopefully this is fixed now. Pickup from airport was included which was nice - except we had to phone and wait at airport as pickup was quite late. Next up is the kitchen - it lacked the basics like a salad bowl, a broil pan, grater, strainer - we gave a list to owner and again hopefully this has been tended to. You do need a car or Golf cart here but if its Electric there is no ready place to plug in so get extra extra long extension. We asked for one but host's rep said she could not accommodate. Outdoor patio space is very narrow but the pool out back is really large and great. The Beach Club listed nearby (unless it has been corrected) is shuttered. You can ride several miles to another which we did. The Beach close by (walking distance) is very good and there is a funky restaurant there (pricey but the whole region is). Toilet in one of the bathrooms was broken but was scheduled to be fixed after we left. So was one rather loud air conditioner. The layout is great. The beds are comfortable. The place is safe and quiet. Fits two couples comfortably and maybe three or a big family.

Magnificent Oasis!

We rented Bernard’s villa for 3 weeks for our family Christmas holiday. We had a fantastic time. The gated community and property was excellent. The three pools were spectacular and the villa was exactly how it was portrayed in the listing. Bernard was a magnificent host and his property manager is the best we have ever had. We use VRBO all over the world so that is a huge compliment. Vanessa went above and beyond for us during our stay. She made us feel like family and answered our messages or questions immediately. My two sons and husband and I would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for all the amenities of home in a tropical setting. We loved our tours and the black sand beach was amazing. Costa Rica was a favourite destination but by far the accommodations and great service from Vanessa made our holiday one of the best holidays we have ever had. We highly recommend this villa to anyone who is looking for a quiet, safe and beautiful location to enjoy your time. Thank you Bernard and Vanessa we will be back!

Beautiful location

We enjoyed our stay in Bernard’s house very much. Father Rooster was steps away and the food was delicious and the atmosphere especially nice when they had the band and ceviche bar. Having access to the beach clubs was a huge plus and gave us variety in our pool/beach days. We appreciated the options quite a bit. Although we had some hiccups with driver pick ups, Vanessa was very responsive and offered to cover a cab to get us to the airbnb at no cost to us. We did find the photos to be a little out of date (linens aren’t white as pictured) and some new furniture that while functional doesn’t really fit the space that well. However these were minor things. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will probably visit Playa Ocotal again! Some honourable mentions for the cook at home chef option given to us by Vanessa. And we hired a boat captain through a travel agency called “my tan feet” named “Marcy” who was amazing. Saw whales, jumping devil rays, turtles, puffer fish , cool caves and more! All in all a great trip!
