two nights in a yurt
Past reviews have stated that as long as you know what you're getting into, the experience is great. We concur. We also were looking for an experience such as this so we loved it.
Our intent in the local area was to spend a day or two hiking El Yunque. The location of this property was ideal to allow us to do so. We also like looking at the wildlife, in this case frogs, lizzards, toads and yes, even bugs. Since the property was located near the forest we were able to spot lots of these during both night and daytime hikes around the large plot of property. We were able to access the main part of the National Forest within a 20-30 minute drive from the yurt.
The yurt itself was in great shape and clean save a few lizards that found their way in. No big deal, we just showed them the exit. It was exactly as advertised. I only have one critical comment and that is that the mattresses could have been a tad bit more firm. But, very tolerable for two nights.
The yurt is part of a larger complex containing some rooms and a larger house. There are many animals on the property such as cats, chickens, ducks a turkey and an awesome dog named Tootsie. Tootsie is everyone's best friend who doesn't know she is as big as she is! We hung out at a common area when we weren't off exploring. There you can have coffee, tea, etc. although we did not, you could probably cook for yourself in the kitchen. We enjoyed talking with the caretakers and other guests when we were there.
We mostly interacted with Jyl and Eunice who were two of the care takers. They were great and recommended many good places to eat and to check out.
All in all it is a different place to stay compared to a standard hotel, but that was exactly what we were looking for and we are very happy with the experience.
