"Magnificent ryokan experience! Friendly staff, clean private baths, and delicious breakfast. Be aware that no one can wear shoes in the building - they are stored in lockers near the door. It keeps the hotel and tatami mats spotlessly clean. I loved this hotel so much! "

"Obviously the premier hotel in the area as every taxi driver recognizes the name Hanajukai. We had a top floor room with private Onsen with view of the harbor. Because it is up a hill getting in and out requires a taxi. The meals were excellent as well. "

"It was the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Despite being a single traveller, all services were impeccable, especially the breakfast and dinner service which is second to none. I was served the best meals during my 5 day stay. The hot springs were also very satisfying and I would definitely return."

Could be better: -The room smelled a bit like restroom - but seemed to come from the AC unit? Maybe it needs to be cleaned. -A no smoking sign outside the bath/shower area - in the morning it smelled like smoke, even after closing the window. "

"Absolutely beautiful modern ryokan experience. Very quiet. Dining is in the restaurant, not the room, which is fine. Service is lovely by an international, less Japanese staff (needed as there are simply not enough people living on Naoshima to support the museum/tourism). We went in the summer raining season before schools let out, and it was very peaceful."

"extraordinary japanese inn sprawled across the mountainside - the place goes back 400 years. hard to say which is more impressive - the traditional japanese buildings or the beautiful garden that links them. the views of the city and the surrounding mountains are stunning, and breakfast - all 12 courses - is not to be missed."

"床に髪の毛が落ちていて、とても自分たちのものとは思えなかったです。ただ部屋の広さや静かさ、大浴場(きれいさも含めて)には大満足。スタッフさんの対応もスマートながら丁寧さに欠けることなく感じが良かったです。部屋の洗面台が欠けていたり、トイレが狭かったり、水の流れが悪かったのは残念でした。"

"There is nothing unique about this Hotel. The owner has to renovate this establishment. It’s not a place for humans. It’s totally runned down. The car bets are stained all over the place. The lobby is dirty, the sofas are stained, you cannot sit on them. In the rooms the curtains are stained, torn, no blinds. The condition of every furniture is bad, needs fixing or get new. The food is served in a old people home dyining room. Looks like the fifties, or a senatorium in the former USSR. The food...

"埃などは落ちてないので清潔ではあるが、何せ建物や備品が古いままな為、カーテンや扉の紙の日焼けやシミがそのまま残ってしまっているのが残念。 昭和世代はまだ耐えられるが、それ以降の人達には厳しいかもしれません。お湯がなかなか出てこないのも大変。それだけ今の世の中が便利で楽になったという事を感じれます笑 部屋及び風呂からの眺めも窓を変えるだけでもかなり変わるはずですが、経営上なかなか難しいんでしょうね。 それでも旅館の方達は高齢ですが、親切で良い方ばかりです。"
