I was taken aback by a staff member, who was unusually unfriendly, though I would not say she was rude. Perhaps I got spoiled by staff members at other Japanese hotels, who were extremely cuorteous and friendly. My room was quite cold. A better heating system would be helpful. Also, the betteries ...

APA Hotel & Resort Ryogoku Ekimae Tower
The rooms were very clean and there was a convenience store and cafe in the hotel as well as a spa/pool. The hotel was next to a train station, 7eleven and a few restaurants. Definitely recommend.

THE KNOT TOKYO Shinjuku
Breakfast was excellent, WiFi good, and consistent. Staff were outstanding, although the rooms were small by European standards. Good value overall A reasonable walk to the station though, which we didn't mind.

Apa Hotel Higashi Shinjuku Kabukicho Tower
The room, though small, was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly. There is a Family Mart across the street and a 711 around the corner, as well as a Don Quijote. Kabukicho is known as a “bad” area, but I did not feel unsafe at any time walking from Shinjuku ...
