"We enjoyed our stay at the El Cid. We went with the Platinum upgrade but found we really didn’t use it that much. Everything was easy to do without the extra service. The sargassum is really bad right now along the whole coast from Cancun down to Tulum. Some resorts have placed barriers out in the ocean to block it and others like the El Cid don’t. So don’t expect to use the beach at all. The smell can be rough sometimes but the pools are amazing and help make the experience much better. The hotel is really trying so you can’t blame them. Hopefully the sargassum problem is less when we return as the hotel really is great. "
