"We had a fantastic stay with Maria. The rustic property was in a cute, quiet, and private location with an amazing view of the ocean. Easy parking was available below the church, which was a 5-minute walk away from the property. The garden and view were highlights of the property that we will always remember. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place to anyone wanting to visit Madeira."

"I loved my stay at Casa Caramelo. Irina was such a warm and welcoming host, with lots of great tips for exploring Madeira. The flat was perfect, with everything I needed for my stay. It was lovely to have access to the courtyard area, which had plenty of sun and shade if needed and it great fun to play with Enola, Irina's beautiful German Shepherd dog. I would very much like to come and stay again oned day, thank you Irina!"

"We stayed for 5 night, the property is in a lovely quiet area with street parking available, I would definitely recommend renting a car. The owner and his son were quick with communication and very helpful. The property is a lovely older building with plenty of character, clean and everything was in working order. There is wifi in the common area which works well and the view from the rooms is fantastic. "

"On arrival we were very pleased with the quality of the villa, the private and secluded location and the stunning uninterrupted views of the Atlantic. However, we had a few issues over the first few days, which included cockroaches in the kitchen drawers, our bedroom, and bathroom. We reported this, to both the housekeeper and the property manager, expecting a pest control company to arrive. Nothing happened. We also reported that the dishwasher had stopped working after three days, and despite promises to repair it nothing was ever done during the next three and a half weeks of our stay. We also reported that the oven door didn't close properly, and were told to raise the oven temperature. This resulted in the oven control knobs being too hot to touch. The general kitchen equipment was very poor. The lawned garden looked wonderful on arrival, but a month later when we left, the grass was up to 1ft high in places. The gates were fixed open so we could not stop two local stray dogs using the garden as a toilet. As compensation for these problems, we were offered a three night stay at another villa, which was very nice, but we assumed the issues at Villa Miradouro would be dealt with in our absence. This did not happen. Overall, it seems to us that there was a reluctance to spend money to properly deal with the issues, although Maria the housekeeper did her best and was extremely thorough and helpful."

"I have mixed feelings about our stay at Joao's place. We were a bit disappointed to find the state of the place; we emailed the landlord but he did not respond until Vrbo contacted him. Positive: - location: the view over the ocean is spectacular! - silence: it is a quiet area, only residential. aside from a couple of dogs once in a while, there is no outside noise - sleep quality: the (hard) mattresses worked a charm and we slept really well - good fun with the table tennis in the common area - (did not use) you can sun yourself in the garden or on the terrace, and BBQ Negative: - extra "flatmates": with the sub-tropical humid weather, there's a lot of plants and life around. Inside, right from the first day, we found a cockroach (alive and upside down). When the rain poured, it was an invasion of millipedes. And for the 2 last nights, we saw a mouse (coming from behind the sink) that we weren't able to lure out, as well as another upside down cockroach - the whole property feels like it is abandoned: mold on the walls (bedroom, bathroom); various objects are broken (railings, handles); the common room is dusty - the towels and some pillow cases were stained with burnt and blood marks Neutral: - internet: there is a ZTE modem in the common living room, but no signal in the appartment - bare minimum: soap, washing up liquid, sponge, toilet paper, plates, cutlery - stagnant water ponds outside: frogs and mosquitoes, keep your windows closed at night."
