Wanderlust & Desert Dust: 1B+1B Near Big Bend Park
10/10 Excellent
"Read your email before heading to the area. The only issue and it was my fault I didn't read the emails, and the closest place to eat or to buy groceries was about 25 miles. Good tip: go to Family Dollar to buy groceries for a lot cheaper. Fill your gas tank before you get to Terlingua."
"We originally planned a family trip, but my daughter had to cancel last minute, so it was just my husband and me. It all worked out as a perfect little 26th anniversary trip. We stayed on the property the entire time and enjoyed a late afternoon dip in the hot tub. We had a wonderful time together stargazing and watching all the wildlife. We saw so many birds, javalinas, deer, and even got to see 3Paws the bear. It was a new moon, so we took some amazing photos of the stars. The hosts were wonderful and we'd definitely love to visit again asap."
"Communication and customer service was great. We were instructed.clearly on how to get there, we were able to get to our cabin after the office closed with no issues. The lodge was very cute and very clean. The pool and pool area was also kept clean and the staff at the restaurant was very friendly. Quiet, laid back, and beautiful at night."
"After staying at a couple of nights at high-end resort rooms in the Big Bend area--which were "just okay" in terms of room size, we were pleasantly surprised to open the door to the Emory room at Paisano RV Park & Inn. Instead of an older, dark room what we found at Paisanos was a bright, super large one bedroom apartment: seating area, kitchen, small dining table and chairs, and a lovely king size bedroom. The bed was incredibly comfy, the bathroom was large also. The location was not far from the Starlight Theater Restaurant ; the entrance to the Big Bend Ranch State Park was also close-by.
The exterior of the building (with big wire dinosaur) and plain edifice was somewhat deceiving, and not at all indicative of the room we enjoyed for our one night stay. If we get to return to the Big Bend area, this would be our first choice for an accommodation, (albeit no pool, golf course or fancy courtyards at the resorts). We do recommend the nearby Far Flung Outdoor Center that arranged for our canoe paddling experience down the Rio Grande."
"We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Greasewood Grocery. The cabin is right off the main road headed to Terlingua. It’s is a rain water only non-potable water source, which was not a problem for us. We brought our own water for drinking. The shower has an instant-hot water heater., which worked great. The AC kept us cold. It does have WiFi, but we did not test it during our stay. The host is very friendly and check-in process was simple. Great place to use as a base camp while exploring the Big Bend area. 👍
PS. We did have several people stop by thinking it really was a small grocery store. 😂"
"Our stay at Casita de Chiles was absolutely incredible and became one of our favorite trips we've ever taken. Mark and Michelle were amazing hosts and truly made the experience special. You can tell they genuinely care about both their guests and their property.
The location was exactly what we hoped for — peaceful, remote, and completely off the beaten path. We were surrounded by breathtaking views of the Christmas Mountains and spent our nights under some of the clearest skies we've ever seen. The stargazing alone was worth the trip.
The wildlife experience was unbelievable. During our stay we saw deer, quail, javelina, Mexican cardinals, bats, scorpions under UV light, a tarantula, and even a rattlesnake. It truly felt like stepping into another world.
A major highlight was the excursion with Mark and Michelle. We spent about 6.5 hours covering roughly 52 miles exploring Terlingua Ranch. They showed us incredible canyons, beautiful views, and hidden places we never would have found ourselves. It felt less like a tour and more like spending the day with friends.
And we can’t forget Chula, who completely stole our hearts.
If you want peace, adventure, wildlife, dark skies, and a chance to disconnect and recharge, this place is perfect. We’ll be talking about this trip for a long time and hope to return."
"The cabin is very nice and modern. Had just enough space for the three of us. The living space has a great window wall for nighttime gazing. Location is close to ghost town and the park. Would stay here again."
