"Restaurant was the best"

"Extremely remote (nearly a 3 hour bus ride from Kinegawa Onsen Train station into the winding mountains) which was both an adventure and unnerving. Made to feel like a foreigner with little help in understanding the cultural norms as a newcomer to the onsen experience. The in-suite onsen option was incredible, providing both privacy and ability to enjoy the experience as a newcomer free of the "ritual" imposed but not well explained for use of the public hot pools. "Closed to lighting exhibition as you can walk. Lobby was terrific but room was not like that. I stayed a night in Japanese styled room, it was stinky once I opened the door. There’s no restaurant to walk-in unless you not reserve hotel’s board. The only nearby restaurant was Yuba udon. It was very delicious but I preferred meat 😂"

"I was surprised to see a Ryokan listed. This type of “ hotel” usually charges by the person not the room and it’s expensive. I was so excited to get such a great deal but turns out it was not. "This was a great place to stay for our family of 4. The amenities were plentiful. Very clean. I would definitely stay here again and stay at other locations offered by Rakuten STAYs. The only trouble we had was the parking. The parking information needs to be more detailed in the check in process before guests arrive.... someone had already parked in our spot number before we arrived. It was clear to us that we were supposed to only park in our assigned number, but I suppose others need it...
