"PROS: Staff is friendly. Breakfast is great. Room is clean. CONS: Hotel is not secure, back entrance door was broken and open all weekend. Newer card readers for room doors, but swivel "U" arm bar had nothing to latch onto, thus making it useless. Missing ceiling tiles in dark hallways. Vanity light in room was very dim. Window in my room was cracked and moldy. Exterior of hotel was missing siding shingles, had chipped and peeling paint, and there was a great deal of trash all around the grounds. Hotel is dated, but they are in the midst of a remodel which is clearly evident by the pyramid of discarded furniture in the parking lot. Hotel did not look like the photographs online."

"We had booked this property for a relaxing girl's weekend. We specifically booked this property for the hot tub, sauna, and water view. The amenities were absolutely fabulous. We loved the hot tub. We never got a chance to use the sauna but it looked great. There were several great surprises when we checked in. First of all, we were pleasantly surprised that the water view was better than expected. We knew a street seperated the house and the beach property so I didn't have high expecations of the view, but it was great. I loved seeing the water from living room and kitchen which was really helpful since we went in April. Another great surprise was how wonderfully stocked the property was. It wasn't one of those bare bones properties. For example we appreciated having a make-up mirror! It's the little things that really make a property so great. It's not what you would call updated but the picture are accurate and honestly it doesn't take away from the experience at all! Also, it is a shared property as stated & we did 'run' into the other person who lived there basically everyday we were there but it personally doesn't bother me and they were respectful of us coming and going.I would have loved to come when it was a bit warmer but we were still able to have a fire on the beach and I loved every minute of it. They have a great set-up on the beach which I have sure is absolutely sublime in the warmer months. Lastly, Aaron was very gracious and a good communicator."

"Earl Young's houses are a big reason people come to Charlevoix and the best way to see one is to stay in one. As a place to stay, the house was beautifully appointed, comfortable, clean and convenient. I spent a lot of time ensconced on the sofa with the fire roaring in the fireplace reading a book about Earl Young, who's house I was sitting in. One of his goals was to make his houses cozy and homey...from day 1. This house welcomed us in and covinced us that an afternoon spent by the fire or looking out at Lake Michigan was an afternoon well spent. The interior design is amazing and something you can't see at the other mushroom houses, all privately owned and closed to the public. Built-in storage, heated floors, two working fireplaces, views to die for, amazing design details. Its an easy to walk downtown to shops (Dockside Books!!!) and resturants (That French Place lives up to its 5 star reviews). We also enjoyed an easy run along the lake through Boulder Park (Young's big development). Everyone we met in town was very friendly and welcoming; appropriate for a place that has been a tourist haven since the the 1800s. Final Note: Charlevoix had a suprise storm that dropped 2 feet of snow three days before we arrived. Our VRBO had the sidewalk completely cleared with shovel and a bucket of salt, should we need it.
