"Blaylock has everything you would expect in a stately manor house. A grand stairway leads to a landing with a dramatic window overlooking the gardens and the lake. The owner, Brett, is a charming host and, even though he's busy tending to details, he took the time to chat with us.
We were encouraged to settle in with all the comforts of our own home. The bedroom had an unusual ceiling slope, reminiscent of older homes. The bed was so comfy that it was a disappointment to leave it in the morning. We had a wonderful sleep.
Before retiring for the evening, we went to the games room, where we watched TV and drank our hot drinks while enjoying the ambiance and richness of the original design. There was a billiards table in the room that would have been fun to play on had we not been so tired. Maybe next time.
Outside, we wandered through a flagstone garden with delightful pathways, water features, and interesting plants. The manor was in full autumn color, with reddish leaves on the vines along its front and sides, giving it an old-world charm. Because Blaylock is a private residence, guests have privacy and can wander without being crowded by the public. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the grounds.
I would choose to stay at Blaylock any time of year, but alas, it is a seasonal facility, so summer would be best."
