The hotel is tired and more like a roadside motel. The room was spartan, and the furnishing, what little there were, were, old, worn and damaged. No closet, no place to hang up clothing. The walls looked like they had not been painted in years. I could feel the mattress springs on the weirdly low platform. But my favorite was the odd offering of ear plugs. The hotel sits next to an active rail station with trains rumbling by and horns blaring all night. The windows and the in-wall A/C offered no soundproofing.

I would not recommend staying at The Dutch Hotel in Long Island City. When I arrived and pulled back the covers on the bed, there was hair, debris, and other dirt in the bedding. The bathroom and room also did not appear to have been cleaned thoroughly. Because of the condition of the room, I checked out the next morning and moved to another hotel nearby, even though my reservation was originally from Friday through Monday. I contacted the hotel to request a partial refund for the unused nights, but they refused because the reservation was nonrefundable. Customer service was also frustrating. It was difficult to get anyone on the phone, I was told someone would call me back and no one did, and I ultimately had to go through Expedia just to get confirmation that they would not issue any partial refund. The hotel also feels much more run down in person than it appears in the photos online. Between the cleanliness issues, poor communication, and refusal to offer any resolution after I left early because of the room’s condition, I would not stay here again. Do not book this hotel if cleanliness and responsive customer service are important to you.
