Cheltenham Chase Hotel & Spa

2/10 Terrible

"We chose this hotel because the May bank holiday was forecast to be very hot and we specifically wanted somewhere with an outdoor pool. Expedia advertised this hotel as having one, so we booked and drove over 3 hours — only to find out the hotel doesn’t actually have an outdoor pool. Extremely disappointing. Things got worse when we discovered the AC in our room wasn’t working in 30-degree heat. A helpful receptionist with long black hair quickly fixed it and explained that whenever the key card is removed, the AC switches off and can only be reset by reception. The next day, after returning from Cheltenham at 2pm, we asked reception to reset the AC again. The short-haired receptionist rudely told us to wait behind a queue of check-ins, despite the reset taking only seconds. An hour later my wife was told it would be sorted, but 3 hours later the AC was still off. I had to go down again and insist it was reset, only to be snapped at that she was busy and working alone. Even another guest commented on how rude this was. Regardless of staffing issues, paying guests should not wait 3 hours for a simple fix or be spoken to so dismissively. I raised the issues with Adrian at checkout, but although polite, he showed little interest in resolving the complaint. Overall, a very disappointing stay with misleading advertising and poor customer service."

"Great hotel with plenty of parking and good food and drink in the bar. Staff were really nice and friendly and very helpful. Great place to stay and would definitely stay again."

"Went during Bank holiday. I booked a room with double and single. Got bumped off which was very annoying. There is not air-conditioning and rooms can get very hot. Staff were generally good especially Matt. Breakfast was average"

"There was a bag of rubbish outside our room when we arrived. The tub had a ball of hair and gunk stuck in the drain. Very dated, we do not recommend."

"Booked a long weekend for my wife and I. Very easy to get to from junction 14 on the m5 (only 5 minutes). Tortworth Court is well worthy to be a part of the De Vere chain of hotels, it's so exquisite and unique and has been brought upto a standard for everyone to admire. All the staff were very freindly and professional from check in to check out. features like the Library Bar and the Atrium Bar blew us away with decor and lighting and a vast selection of beverages and food. We stayed in the Gilbert Room 22 which is in the main building at the top of a long sweeping staircase. Outside the building the gardens are to be admired and the upkeep is spotless. To all the staff, you made it such a memorable weekend and we shall be returning."

"Great hotel, beautiful building. Appreciating the hotel is family owned, it could do with a little modern tlc TV didn’t work in the bedroom for channels 1-4. Extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work, towels are quite old, Check your dinner bill, we had 3 bottles of wine added to the bill but we’d only had 1 £25 bottle. We were being charged for 2 x £45 bottles we’d not had. When we called to get the tv satellite sorted in our bedroom it was the waiter and head waiter who attended our room #faultytowers Could be 5* but I’m reluctant to give it more than 3*, £200 for 1 night without breakfast is expensive for mother and daughter aged 83 & 52. We’ll shop around n xx time."
