  • The largest living creature on earth, the General Sherman tree, is close to 2,200 years old. Imagine; the tree was a mere seedling when King Solomn built his temple in Jerusalem, a sapling when Christ was born. The General generates enough wood each year to produce a 60-foot tall tree of average size. Dozens of giant sequoia are neighbors to the General; the half-mile downhill trail into the Giant Forest offers access to the General and all the beautiful and hardy creatures. Just be aware returning to the parking lot requires a gentle, uphill walk. It was certainly worth the trip. We loved Lone Pine, such a cute and quaint western town with lots of movie and TV history. The location was perfect for walking to most everything in town. If you want to visit Mt Whitney or the Alabama Hills, Lone Pine is perfect. We were heading to Death Valley which is about an hours drive in through mountains. This place is dated. You access the unit with a key that is in a lockbox on the door handle, it wasn't the easiest to open. It was cleanish. There was some mold in the shower. Saw a roach in the bathroom.The heater is in the living room so that room was toasty but there is no heat in the bedroom, there is an electric heater. No thermostat, you had to open the front of the heater and turn a knob to increase or decrease the heat.There is a queen size bed in the bedroom and a futon in the living room. The futon was hard and had very little paddingKitchen was well equipped and there was a washer/dryer but no laundry supplies were provided. We found a laudromat and bought some single sized boxes from it.The 'smart" TV was first generation and would only allow us to stream Netflix. Every time you turned it off the TV it lost the Wifi signal. The owner was patient in helping us resolve. He offered us another nights stay with all the issue we encountered, but we had reservations elsewhere.Overall if you are wanting to come hike and are just needing a place to land, this might suit you. We were not impressed.

The place is super cozy, welcoming and clean. The host shortly prior to arrival told us that the fridge was not working and replaced it immediately for a new one. Everything is within walking distance.We will be back!

We had a very nice stay. The building is old but clean and has a very well equipped kitchen. It's location is good, just a block off the main street in town. We appreciated the privacy and quiet, and the parking was great. It was a nice place to come back to after a day of hiking.

This little cottage was a great find! Reasonably priced, clean, well-stocked kitchen, quiet neighborhood; comfortable bed, easy to check in, parking in front, one block from town. We've driven through Lone Pine for years on our way to Mammoth Lakes, but this time we decided to get to know this friendly little town. Highly recommend eating at Alabama Hills Cafe for breakfast and Seasons for dinner (be sure to make a reservation), where we had elk and salmon. Several things you must do while in Lone Pine: visit the Museum of Western Film History; drive through the Alabama Hills, check out the Mobius Arch, drive up to the Whitney Portal, and drive up to Horseshoe Meadows. Would stay here again!

1920's home

My granddaughter and I (age 85) loved our stay in this little home, tucked in on Jackson, 1 block off the highway. Very quiet. Comfy queen bed. Futon mattress is very hard. Once the problem with the water cooler was resolved, the rooms stayed cool (outside temps in low 100's). Everything provided for short stays. Only used microwave, refrig and sink in kitchen. Shower stall quite slippery and no grab bars, but refreshing non the less. At age 4-7, my hubby, brother, and mother lived here while his Dad was overseas during WWII, so a bit of history for me to be able to stay here. Would definitely stay again when in Lone Pine. Host Joseph responsive, but it was the fire chief who fixed the cooler. Love small town hospitality.

The name says it all. Everything in town is in walking distance. It was clean and has full size washer and dryer. Excellent customer service.

Great location

If your exploring the Eastern sierra area you Can't beat lone pine pine. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed. I contacted the host because of a small issue and he quickly responded and took care of it. I would stay here again if coming back to this area.

Comfortable Cottage

This property worked well. Close to stores. restaurants and scenic areas. Not modern or luxurious but worked for me. Across the street from fire station but wasn't issue while I was there. Has smart TV but without cable. Plenty of kitchen amenities. I would recommend as alternative for many travelers to motel.

This property is an excellent bargain for the price. We had some initial difficulties with signing in to the WiFi network because of wrong information provided by VRBO, information the owner had failed to update. The owner was initially hard to contact, though very helpful once VRBO tracked him down. The home is a bit dated but well equipped and perfect for a base camp from which to explore the area. Comfortable and adequate for the slightly adaptable renter!

Delightful

The house was clean, comfortable, well equipped and a perfect location for exploring Lone Pine. We could walk to everything in town. Only hiccup was dealing with the lock box which I found very challenging and was grateful that one of our party was savvy about various steps and after several attempts able to maneuver it to open.

Unique and fun stay

Property was very clean and met all of our needs. Bed was comfortable and my son reported the futon was comfortable as well (thick mattress on it). Kitchen had everything we needed. Right in Lone Pine with groceries and restaurants nearby. We used it as a jump off point for a day in Death Valley. I would recommend this property! Thank you for the stay!
