The best thing about The Westerly is the friendly, helpful staff--accommodating and always ready to chat with guests. The trash bin in the kitchen is way too small, given that guests use the space for meals in the evening as well as morning. Otherwise, the place is tidy. I was in an ensuite room. Although that's nice, the trade-off is that there's no chair or table. Staff encourage guests to make breakfast and enjoy it in their rooms--easier said than done when there's nowhere to put plates down or sit, aside from the bed. The bed was decently comfortable and the shower was good. The expanded Continental breakfast was a nice inclusion. The back yard, which could be a space for guests at breakfast or in the evening is an overgrown mess and something that the owner can and should attend to. One thing I didn't realize when booking is that staff leave at 6:00 pm during the week and even earlier, 1:00, on Sunday. If there is a problem overnight--such as the night a couple showed up thinking they had a reservation and banged on the front door and guest suite windows until somebody let them in but there was nobody who could help. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk to the underground and, from there, about 30 minutes to any tourist areas. There are very few dining options close by. For those reasons, I would not book again here, despite the very reasonable rate by London standards.
