"The lodge was absolutely wonderful. We honestly had not slept as well as we did at the lodge anywhere else in Japan. Not sure if it was the mountain air, the onsen, or the large rooms that allowed us to settle in and spread out. The hospitality was incredible; the hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home, including by providing a bountiful breakfast each morning. My husband and I wish we could have stayed there our entire trip!"

"The guy that looked after us, Satoshi, was really nice and very accommodating- he didn't speak english and we didnt speak Japanese but we got by. It was end of season and very quiet feeling like we had the place to ourselves. It was clean and immaculate. The breakfast was beautifully presented and ample. He met uas at the station and dropped us off as well as taking us elsewhere as and when needed. A really good experience and we would return."

However, if we had known that the cabin was 2 km away from the hotel, we probably would not have stayed. I booked it because of its proximity to echo land. However, the cabins were located 2 km outside of town, and although there was a shuttle it would’ve been super helpful to have a car. in addition, the cabin was very cold. "I chose this hotel for its location next to a ski resort and I liked the look of the tatami rooms. This hotel is very cheap and you get what you pay for. The room was small and old, the futon mattresses you use to make your bed were thin and I woke up achy every day. The staff were helpful and friendly with limited English. "I really enjoyed my time at Dark Horse. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming, and helped out in many ways, both big and small. Breakfasts and dinners were good and the lounge/dining room was a comfortable place to relax after riding. It was great value for the money.
