"I was surprised to see a Ryokan listed. This type of “ hotel” usually charges by the person not the room and it’s expensive. I was so excited to get such a great deal but turns out it was not. The price seemed low at first for a room including breakfast but they hid the cost of the breakfast in the service charge, and extra fees. And then they tried to charge us again for the entire stay. We waited ten minutes for them to figure out we already paid. And finally they said we owed another $ 25...

"The outdoor private onsen is amazing. Staff with limited English but willing to help. The booking system for the private onsen is based on first come first serve, no reservation ahead so you have to keep calling front desk to check for availability....that needs to be changed. Other than that, I'd recommend it to those who enjoy traditional Japanese Ryokan."

"Staying at Shima Onsen was a real delight. I would highlight the incredibly friendly and gracious staff, who made me feel very welcome and looked after as a solo traveller, and made the beautiful dining experience even better. I enjoyed walking through the lovely nearby streets and forests - it felt very secluded and tranquil. And there was nothing better than coming back from a big walk to relax into one of the onsen - either public or private, depending on what you preferred. I wish I had more...

"Close to bus station. Close to stone steps. Older hotel but staff was very nice. Near steep hill, so I walked about 50 yards to ask staff at driveway if this was the hotel I was looking for. Then he ran up the hill to help us with our bags. I was very pleased."

"清潔で綺麗なホテルでした。 このサイトでは素泊まりプランしかなかったのが残念でした。。。 前日にホテルへ相談したところ、+5000円/人で夕食と朝食を後からつけることができ、現地では朝夕ともに個室で美味しくいただきました。 温泉も24時間入れるため、滞在中に何度も入りました。他の方のレビューにもあるように、露天風呂の温度は少し低かったですが、温水プールと思えば問題無しでした笑。一応、風呂の上の方に温かいお湯が溜まっているため、手でかき混ぜると全体的に暖かくなります。 また今回は貸切風呂も利用してみました（写真アップしときます）。 全般的にはかなり良かったと思いますので、また利用させていただきます。"

"昭和の頃の建物のようでトイレは和式を改装し洋式になっていましたが古さは隠せません。 携帯の電波も弱くWi-Fiの環境も無いため若い人には向かないと思います。 ただ割烹旅館だけあり料理はとても美味しく楽しめました。また周囲が公園と住宅街という事もあり静かで良かったです。"
