"Best value accommodation, even cheaper than a Youth Hostel. Decent sized room, with a desk and everything required for a good nights sleep. All staff, at reception and housekeeping, did their best to make us comfortable and at home. Would love to return one day!"

"Powter Howe is a wonderful place to stay. So welcoming and homely for a B&B. A beautiful old house and garden, plenty of space, very peaceful, a lovely breakfast and open fire in the evening. Mrs Lockwood is an excellent host, and the other guests who stayed during my 9-night visit were very pleasant as well. There are lovely short walks nearby to the lake and in the woods, and only 10 minutes drive to Keswick. I hope to be back soon."

"We had had two very nice nights’ stay at the Fleece as part of a tour of Hadrian’s wall. The pub/hotel has been refurbished to a high standard with quality materials, joinery and fittings. We stayed in a superior room that was very well maintained and much larger than we expected. We ate breakfast both mornings. There was a buffet (cereals, juice, toast, pastries, yoghurt, etc.) and a good range of dishes cooked to order. Dinner was also excellent with a good choice, high quality food and very good service. The staff on the first day were extremely good - professional, experienced and attentive. The second day there were different staff who were less professional and less experienced, but it didn’t spoil the stay. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend it. "
