A grove of olive trees on Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea. It's a beautiful island full of rural beaches, vineyards and olive groves.

Olive oil is this island's main export with over a million olive trees covering the island. The island used to have over 200 operating oil presses until the devastating earthquake of 1953 dropped the number to around 13.

In August 1953 the area had an astounding 113 recorded earthquakes. The largest measured 7.2 and caused the island to rise by 60 cm. It leveled whole villages and many were killed. A large portion of the survivors left Kefalonia for Athens, UK, America and Australia. The region around the Ionian Islands is the most earthquake prone region spanning from Western Europe to China.

"Wir waren 2 Wochen auf Zakynthos, die erste Woche im Süden bei Keri und die zweite Woche im Norden bei Dina. Grundsätzlich gefällt uns der Norden wesentlich besser mit vielen tollen Buchten und einer etwas schrofferen Küste.Der Bungalow ist mediterran eingerichtet, ganz unser Geschmack. Dina hat uns herzlich empfangen und uns über die Woche mit kleinen Mahlzeiten überrascht.Wir können die Unterkunft mit bestem Gewissen weiter empfehlen, immer gerne wieder. "Old box TV, no channels working, a waste of time having it in the room. Furniture in room rundown, no clothes hangers. The bed was very comfortable. Swimming pool was nice, needs more seating areas & lounge beds. No restaurant/food, snacks or water available on site, you need to drive to get these. Dinner & Breakfast needs to be pre booked in advance when not purchased in a package. Internet was ok. Heaps of parking available. "
