"Very well maintained and constant refurbished hotel since Showa period. Full of nature attractions. Dinner & breakfast are excellent. Hotel did many activities In conjunction w 70th anniversary. Souvenir shop has lots of Hokkaido related items. We can even observed deers in the wild. 3 big Onsen bath with excellent views. Due to very remote position, better to have self drive to for better access. "

"Sounkyo is a quaint little resort town with not much in the way of facilities, but this hotel helps make up for that. They provided dinner and breakfast so I didn't have to worry about finding a restaurant in the freezing cold. They also have a hot spring, a place to chill and play billiards, and even a movie showing every night in which I regrettably could not partake. "Upon arrival we felt like we had arrived at the Shining hotel just as described in an earlier review, but at 3pm its lights on and showtime! Buses and cars arrive and the reception desk comes to life! After a botched car rental ( thanks Expedia : ( - we took the bus from Kamikawa which was easy and cheap. "The hotel is lovely! A bit dated but very well maintained. The included buffet dinner and breakfast were amazing with many choices of Japanese and Western food! Lovely rooftop onsen plus ground floor onsen. The area around the hotel is a quiet with many ships and restaurants closed but that allowed us to enjoy the hotel facilities."

"Room spacious, buffet breakfast & dinner served with varieties, food so so. Bath suits provided if went mixed open air onsen. Lay out of futons by ourselves. Front staff spoke English. It would be good to has a shelter at drop off point for raining days."
