"The room was in disrepair, needing painting, wood work repairs. The furniture is dated and linen/towels were worn and grey white. The shower unit needd replacing as it is worn out too as toi the flooring. Carparks need attention."

"Spotlessly clean and oh so quaint. The layout makes it feel spacious, even though it is not very big. The bed is super comfortable. I was a bit worried about a double bed but it felt more like queen bed - I needn’t have worried. The cooking facilities are simple and there’s no hob or extractor fan. We were reluctant to cook in the main room. There is a bbq though if you want to DIY using some of the great local produce. There are also plenty of places to eat out.We didn’t visit any wineries this time - we explored the region more. I don’t know why we hadn’t heard more about what a great tourist attraction Wairarapa is! Aotearoa Stonehenge was so interesting & fun - not at all what I was expecting.We loved our stay in The Alchemists Retreat. I think we’ll be back for one of the Stonehenge events and we’ll definitely stay here again."

"There is no fencing but I was staying only one night so I was able to make it work for my dog. Too much stuff in such a small space and it smelled odd. I am not sure it was value for the money."

"Great house and gardens, lovely location, well equippped, open fires were an unexpected highlight. Great for family gathering. Slightly disapointed that the gardens hadn;t been mown for probably a month, only two tea-towels, no dishcloth, too few dishwashing powder tabs. Having said that, we had a wonderful weekend in a great location, a lovely spacious property. "
