"Portola Hotel is in a great location near downtown Monterey, adjacent to restaurants and shopping, while only a mile away from the very touristy Cannery Row. Our 2-queens room was fairly spacious and well decorated in a modern style. Both the lobby restaurant Jack's (more expensive but not outrageous) and Peter B's Brewery had surprisingly good food. We enjoyed both happy hour and $5 Taco Tuesday at Peter B's Brewery. The pool area is a little on the small side and is across the plaza from the hotel, which is a bit odd. Self-parking was convenient. All the staff were friendly and helpful."

"Property was lovely. The room was spacious and clean. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. It is also really close to other cafes that we visited (Earthbound Farms was so good). Will for sure stay here again."

"Our stay was very pleasant. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Loved the cook to order breakfast and the afternoon snacks which were complimentary from the hotel. Would definitely stay there again."

"We stayed 3 nights broke up over 5 days. One frustration on two mornings was the smoke detector. It went off for 10 minutes both mornings. It occurred when we ran our steamer or right after we all showered. My guess is the steam triggered it. Had to keep resetting. Even had the fan on and windows open the whole time. Price…what you expect. Comfortable bed. Clean shower. Clean room. Have another stay booked next month."
