Gosfield Hall is a magnificent building with noble connections, home to many kings and queens in the past. Overlooking a tranquil lake, the historical mansion is set among 10 acres of parkland in the heart of picturesque rural Essex. A seamless combination of Elizabethan charm and Georgian elegance, the grand interior of the house is home to the Queen’s Gallery, Grand Salon, Marquis of Buckingham’s former Ballroom and Library along with a number of stately bedrooms.

Externally, Gosfield Hall is equally as impressive. The property has retained many of his historical period features including its leaded windows, chimneys and clock and weathervane.

After being exiled from France King Louis XVIII of France and Navarre, and his Queen Mary-Josephe-Louise of Savoy took refuge in England. Lord Buckingham had long been in sympathy of Royalsit France, and in 1807 offered to loan them Gosfield Hall. They gratefully accepted this offer and along with a huge entourage of courtiers and staff they stayed there for the next couple of years. Over this time the Hall become a home of lavish French hospitality, with many social gatherings including such distinguished guests as the Prince Regent. According to French tradition on Sunday's the villagers were allowed into the kitchen to see the dinner set out for the King, and on occasions were allowed into The Grand Salon to watch him dine. King Louis and his Queen moved out of the Hall in 1809.

"A good property for 3-4 adults, the attic might be good for agile children and teenagers. The eclectic decor is a mixture of Middle Eastern and Baltic. The off road car park is a bit small for family estate cars, but on road parking is free."

"A comfortable small lodge / glamping pod set in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. Had everything we needed to help make our 2 nights an easy and enjoyable experience. Criticisms were minor: a little detritus (possibly dog hair?) on the floor on arrival; a broken toilet roll holder; a bed sheet that was too small for the mattress. "After a day of travel nice to stop at the end of the day. Checkin was quick and easy. Travelling from Australia,, surprised the room didn’t have a bar fridge ( I didn’t check if in room details- lesson for me). I had the impression there was a hotel carpark . The carpark is part of the main carpark that includes a mini shopping centre- mainly fast food outlets. The first 2 hours free, but then 5gbp. It was an extra cost I hadn’t realised. If you book directly with hotel this parking fee is absorbed in their pricing. The room when we first entered was stale -and the aircon was noisy during the night. I would not stay here again if in the area."
