Hideaway from it all ! Holyfield Hideaway, Flag Pond, Tennessee

Quietly, hidden away under a canopy of trees in the Appalachian mountains, is one of East Tennessee's best-kept secrets - until now. Nestled above Sam's Creek and Oberlin Falls, the Holyfield Hideaway sits on an ancient Indian and buffalo trail - later becoming the old wagon road connecting East Tn. to NC.. Nowadays:), you can drive right up in your car - no steps onto the pavilion deck or through the front door. The Hideaway is furnished with antique brass headboard, king bed, queen sofa bed, pack n’ play upon request, dining table with 4 chairs, kitchen & bathroom w/ standing shower. All connecting to an 800 sq.ft. deck with propane grill, dining table for 4, hammock chair and so much more. Create memories to last a lifetime while sitting around the fire, dreaming under the stars...
Other things to note - All bed, bath and kitchen linens provided.***dog friendly*** no cats please due to allergies. Limit of 2 and must crate if left alone.Owners will be held responsible for damages. We now have FIBER INTERNET for your work or school needs. We have a DVR player & a nice selection of family movies. We are not able to get a satellite signal for our 31” tv but we have a Fire Stick. We have plenty to do in our area - white water rafting just 20 minutes from us on the Nolichucky River ( USA Raft or Wahoo’s Adventures in Erwin, Tn ) and hiking at our own Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park (Tennessee’s newest wilderness park) just 4 miles down our road. The Sams Gap crossing of the AT is 3 miles up our road ! We are a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat💚. Our tap water is from our 700’ deep well - we hit the aquaphor- pure and clean !
We are only 30 minutes away from Johnson City or Asheville. Please familiarize yourself with our directions before approaching as GPS is not always accurate here :( You will want to stop for groceries before arrival. Last stop for groceries/gas from the Johnson City direction on I-26E is Food City in Erwin, exit 37. Last stop for gas/groceries from the Asheville area on I-26W is Ingles in Mars Hill, exit 11. Amazing time in the mountains
The cabin was great and had amazing views of the creek below. Chuck and Valda were very welcoming and attentive to our needs. They are great people and have many interesting stories about their property's history. As a wheelchair user, I was very impressed with the accessibility inside and outside the cabin. There were some inclines in the mountain terrain around their property, but I was able to get used to it after a few minutes. I actually surprised myself that I was able to get to virtually every part of the property. We brought our dog, and she got to play with Chuck and Valda's dog in the creek - they had a blast. We will definitely be booking again!

Gorgeous and a World of Its Own
The stay was absolutely beautiful! It was a perfect blend of nature and society, as we were in gorgeous, vibrant forestry but also had some fellow hikers here and there. The small town (Erwin) nearby was also a nice balance as it wasn’t overcrowded or heavily touristy. The creek outside and down the hill was soothing, and energetic at the same time. The living quarters were warmhearted, well-equipped and very comfortable. We felt like we were at home inside the cabin and out in the pavilion, even being a couple hundred miles away from where we came. Chuck greeted us when we arrived with smiles, great history/ background of the area/the property, and helpful recommendations. We met Valda the following morning on our way to the first destination (Lamar Alexander State Park) with smiles, warmth and a great welcome. If we needed anything, we knew we could ask with ease. Over the three days we were there, we had nothing but amazing views and experiences. We would definitely recommend Valda and Chuck’s hospitality and their beautiful property. The surrounding areas were breathtaking and provided a good range of options for nature-lovers. They have a special spot here to share with those looking for a hideaway to relax in or to excite any of the senses. It is definitely a world of its own!

Absolutely wonderful!
This place is a gem. Overlooking the stream gave us a non-stop feeling of nature. Chuck and Valda are such warm hosts and did everything and more to make us feel welcoe. I know the homemade cookies and ice cream have been mentioned before but they were great. Sitting on the deck the first night with a cup of tea and a cookie by the stream was perfect. Valda and Chuck also pointed us in the direction of so many places to visit while we were there. Lovely cabin with everything we needed. Top stars to the Holyfields and their property.

Loved the Little Woodland Cottage
My son and our two dogs stayed for a few days at this cute little woodland cottage. It was so cozy and lovely. We loved the sound of the creek, the deck was amazing, the bed comfortable and Vanda and Chuck were spectacular. We were greeted with homemade, cookies, peach ice cream, eggs and lots of supplies. Which was truly unexpected and such a perfect treat for us. Our dogs were living their best life running all around the cabin. Would highly recommend, Vanda and Chuck were some of the nicest people I've ever met. I hope we will be able to come back and visit them again!

We were welcomed by Chuck and Valda as soon as we arrived and made to feel like family. The Hideaway is just that. A great place to decompress and enjoy yourself. Chuck is a true historian of the surrounding area and Valda’s baking is amazing. Never have my husband and I been welcomed by VRBO owners like we were by The Holyfields. We highly recommend this rental property and we will definitely return.

Needing a break from your crazy everyday life?
If you want a quiet, rustic, relaxing cabin well here it is! The cabin itself was tucked away and completely private with everything a person could want or need to make their stay enjoyable. I do not know what I enjoyed the most between the old chimney fireplace or falling asleep to the sound of the creek. Both were very relaxing. The hosts were warm and very welcoming, almost making you feel like family. I could have sit and talked with them all night. Finding out that our cabin sit on an old buffalo trail and was built around a chimney that was made over 200 years ago was a plus. Also, the cabin is not hard to find. If you follow the directions given to you by the property owners it will take you right to the doorstep of your cabin. Both hosts are open minded and down to earth people who make some yummy pimento cheese and cookies. We will be returning soon!
