A 6:15 a.m. departure from Post Mills Airport, VT in your hot air balloon gets this spectacular view of Vermont to the left of the river, and New Hampshire to the right. This perspective is looking essentially northwards. Farm lands and forest nestled along what was in colonial times a mighty river of commerce and transportation. When Vermont separated from NH, and to protect those assets, NH insisted the border between NH and VT would be the high water mark on the westerly side of the river.
Watching this scene my mind went on flights of fancy. Imagine, you are looking at a typical New England Church from the 18th century, while in the backdrop watching a more modern version of an 18th century flight technology!
Each May, the Post Mills Airport has an Experimental Balloon Festival. This year the #blue experience was better than ever. There were more than 20 balloons. They range from a traditional basket for multiple passengers, to a single pilot suspended from a lawn chair attached to the balloon and a propane tank apparatus. The balloons are launched, as you see, typically in the early morning, or towards evening. Along with the balloons, there can be music, food, and balloon rides.
