Ely is a mining town with a long history. If you like trains, old mines, historic buildings, and rural vibes, it's a great place to check out. We've been visiting (mainly for hunting) for the past 20 years and we really like it. Check out the train!

We happened to arrive just as the Silver State Classic Challenge race car parade took over the main street. It was quite interesting and obviously a huge event. We were sorry we didn't get to stay to see all the cars displayed on Saturday.

Cool little historical mining town. It's also very close to Great Basin National Park. I recommend going there if you can, see Lehman Caves! It's only a bit over an hour drive each way.

Ely deserves the serious attention of the traveler who enjoys the wide open spaces off the beaten path, yet still appreciates all the comforts the modern world offers.

A must to see White Pine Museum.I've been to many small town museum throughout the states. Each one always has at least one item that no one else has but this has multiple items that I've never seen any where. One of the best museums to see for $7.

Nevada Northern Railroad is a wonderful experience. The Silver State Classic Challenge parade and car show is a bonus, twice a year.

I stayed in Ely to visit the Nevada Northern railway, as well as to do some hiking and exploring in the area. The town is full of friendly people but other than the railway there not a ton to do if you're looking for shopping or nightlife

Ely is an old mining town with lots of history. Many buildings in town are vacant. So sad to see this happen to a town with so much history

This is a pretty small town but considering there's nothing much around this area for miles it was a great place to stop over.

We went for the sunset, champagne, stargazing train ride it was a blast! Very friendly town and love the traffic!
"Besides the lovely staff and the delicious meal we had at Dennys, as we were leaving, my husband realized he had left his silver cross necklace. As we called, we hoped they would find it and to our happy surprise, they had just gotten it to the front desk as we ran in. Very lovely people and a very lovely hotel. We will be choosing Hotel Nevada if we’re ever in the area!"
"Love staying here when me and my pup are traveling between Boise and Phoenix. So pet friendly makes me and my dog feel comfortable. The Margaritas restaurant has great Mexican food and the bartender in the casino is fantastic! "

"Isolated GemThis alpine/ranch house is more than a pleasant weekend stay location. We had a very enjoyable extended stay at the Duck Creek lodge. The house is as lovely as the pictures spread out over 4 levels with multiple decks generating a 360 degree view. The house is large enough that our three generation family had plenty of room to escape or be all together. The combination of in-house activities and views are so enticing that at first we did not want to leave the property. The house is located in the Duck Creek valley at 6700 ft. surrounded by mountains that peak at 11,800 feet. Although the valley has several ranches none of the houses/buildings are visible. Good hiking is a short drive up the valley. The Ely area offers good hiking, rock climbing, golf and historical and nature touring. Nearby McGill offers an excellent fresh water public swimming hole and a small grocery store. The internet and WIFI allowed remote work all over the house and decks even with multiple video calls going at the same time. Amazon deliveries were made to the McGill post office. Ely has a good full service grocery store. The hosts were very responsive to our needs even building a custom child gate at the stairs. They also gave useful recommendations to source local baked goods, steaks and activities. Particularly noteworthy were the large and very fully equipped kitchen and the exceptional media room. A drawback of the location is that it is a 30 minute drive to Ely."
