About this property
Oceanview Studio - Beach, Fireplace & Deck
Summary:
Vista de la Playa
A romantic retreat for two or even a solo getaway at this lovely Elk vacation rental! You'll enjoy stunning ocean views, WiFi, a full kitchen, a gas fireplace, and more while you explore this sleepy coastal town. This studio-style retreat is located upstairs from a garage workshop on the property of a larger coastal home (where the owners live) and has its own entrance and private space.
The Space:
Inside this comfortable, newly remodeled space, you'll be treated to slanted ceilings, hardwood floors, and a light and bright space. This rental also includes one bathroom with a shower. You'll find the kitchen fully equipped with everything you need for meals, including a breakfast bar for seating. Whip up a clam chowder while a winter storm makes the waves crash outside. There is no dishwasher but you can always let the pots and pans soak while you take in the views or watch a movie. Get away from the hustle and bustle with a stay at this Northern California Coast vacation rental!
Please note - The garage workshop will not be used while guests are staying in the studio.
This property does not support EV charging. Guests are kindly asked to use public EV chargers available in the area.
Guest Access:
In nice weather, head to the deck equipped with comfortable patio chairs for a lazy afternoon with a book, or take the path into the village and peruse the Greenwood Museum & Visitor Center. There are great views from the bluff as well as the beach. In the mood for some pampering on your vacation? You can even book a massage at the Elk Cove Inn and Spa right in town.
The Neighborhood:
The property is right by a path leading to Elk's small village, so you can easily walk to Queenie's Roadhouse Cafe for lunch or down to the beach. And for more city amenities, Mendocino is just a scenic 17-mile drive to the north. After an afternoon beachcombing in Elk or gallery browsing in Mendocino, come back and relax, watching some cable TV or reading a book. Scenic and peaceful Elk is well-situated for day trips to Fort Bragg and Mendocino to the north and Gualala and other small towns along the Sonoma Coast to the south. And at the end of the day, come back to your cute and cozy studio for a home-cooked meal.

Spectacular views of the ocean. Cute little studio room with all amenities. The kitchen. Was great, full fridge, gas stove, shower, ceiling fan and good air flow. The owner is a retired construction contractor so the place is nice. We loved the conversation starter questions left for us which we used instead of watching TV
Awesome!! Exactly as described. Truly a beautiful view from room and deck. Everything needed for a few days of getting away.

Beautiful weekend, beautiful place!
Great view of the ocean. Short walk to town and ocean access. The room was comfy and clean! Met the host briefly and he encouraged feedback if we needed anything. Thanks for a great stay!
As advertised, amazing view from every angle, clean large living space. Couldn’t ask for more. The best option in Elk

Wonderful, private, romantic get-away with great ocean view
A clean, quiet get-away location with a wonderful ocean view on a hillside overlooking the pacific. The private cottage is close to several small towns (including Mendocino), great restaurants, several beaches and points of interest. We had a magnificent time, relaxed and went to sleep every night to the sound of ocean waves crashing against the rocks and washing onto the beach.

We had the best time staying in Elk, our hosts were friendly and their suite is impeccable!
If we could have stayed longer we would have. So, If you want a view and fun things to do, stay here in Elk and enjoy all the area offers.

Perfect Studio Getaway
I loved this space, it was perfect for my needs. The property is meticulously maintained and gorgeous. It is quiet, with lovely views of the ocean and surrounding area from the windows. The kitchen was fully equipped for cooking, and the space was well organized and laid out. Everything was in perfect working condition, seemed like new and thoughtfully designed. I would love to stay there again and again.

Great comfortable studio with ocean view
This studio had everything you could want including a deck with an ocean view. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. Great for one person or a couple. The only minor thing is that the deck is not on the same level as the studio so involves stairs...good exercise.

Loved this place!
We were so happy with this studio apartment. It was modern and very clean! The view is spectacular!! The owners really paid attention to all the details, even the pots and pans were good quality and not cheap like most vrbos. The bed is very comfy. The town of Elk is small but quaint. There's a grocery store with a deli and the owners are very helpful. Medincino is only about 20 minutes away. We would highly recommend this place!

Tiny, welcoming town
We were looking to spend some time disconnected and this was perfect. No cell signal (but good WiFi in the studio) meant we could be as available as we had to be. The studio is a great space and a quick walk to the store or the beach. We loved sitting on the deck in the afternoons when the sun came out and listening to the neighbor's roosters wake in the morning. It was a perfect escape.

The studio was clean and cozy.
The studio was clean and cozy. We felt very comfortable in the studio. It was nice to have the path into town and the path along the bluff and to the beach. Only two places to eat in town but we can see they are working on more options. It was very quiet . Just what we were looking for.
The experience I had in Elk was wonderful. The studio was easy to find. Everything needed was provided. There was a lovely fan for warm afternoons, and an easy-to-use propane fireplace for cool nights. The neighborhood was very quiet, and it was only a 20-minute walk to the Greenwood State Park beach. I came because I needed a rest/break from being a caregiver for months of a family member. This was perfect. I would recommend this to all my friends, and hope to stay again there myself. Thank you very much.

A well-outfitted & very tidy studio with a world-class view!
My wife & 8-yr old son stayed here for almost a week in April. We love this town and were so happy to find this studio. The studio is very new as is all of the finish work, furnishings, linens, housewares, etc. The bed was very comfortable and our son slept great on the convertible. There are amazing views of the Pacific coastline from the front window and also a very nice meadow & hillside view out the back. The studio was very quiet - no noise from neighbors or roads - and nicely spaced away from the owners home. This area has endless adventures: redwood hikes, estuary paddling, wineries, beaches, biking, bluffs & lighthouses. We'll be back!
Small, functional and clean. Excellent location/views.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay here. All was as described and very quiet. My only two issues to pass on to owners are that it would be nice to have an option to pull some drapes to shade the morning sunlight and allow for sleeping in (esp over the bed)....and that proper foot stools be provided for the couch. They ones there are so low, it's uncomfortable on your back/knees and since they slide on the hardwood floors, they will not stay in place if you want to just rest your foot against it. The refrigerator might also be addressed as it it louder that optimal in such a small place, near the bed.
We'll certainly consider visiting again. Thanks!

Limited view
We were not to excited about this rental.
Aside from missing essential items like a hot mit for cooking and a fly swatter for pesty flys, we couldn't see much of what the posting showed as views. The studio had a deck, located outside and below, but not much of the view that you see in the posting. You get what you pay for. Our mistake, we usually rent homes and will go back to that. If privacy is what your looking for, skip this one.

This place is ok but not great.
To start with the positive. The place was very clean and well equipped. They have everything you might need for your stay.
The negative. There were signs all over the place with rules and restrictions. It made us feel nervous to use or touch anything. Im not sure if they had bad experiences in the past with other guests but we didn't appreciate yellow signs everywhere.
Also they charged us a really high cleaning fee and the place is very small.
One more thing...the hot water ran out very quick so only one person got a warm or hot shower.

Nice location, but there were some negatives
The Pros:
- nice landscaping and beautiful area with birds and wildlife
- new interior and appliances
- they provide coffee creamer for you and a few coffee pods for their Keurig
- the linens seemed fresh and smelled wonderful
- Elk is a charming town
The Cons:
- The picture makes it look like you are directly overlooking the ocean, when in fact you have two roads between you and the ocean.
- Hidden Fees: they charge a very large cleaning fee + a booking fee, which totals to nearly half of the advertised nightly price and is added onto your bill. So if you are searching for places based on price, be aware you might have filtered out equivalently-priced places that don't have these hidden fees. Also, despite the cleaning fee, they ask you to do your dishes before you leave, the floor was sticky, and when I walked around with no shoes my feet got dirty; they also don't let you take the towels to the beach and don't do anything you would expect with a daily cleaning fee, like change linens/towels and take out trash. Another hidden fee is that if you stay late they will charge you significant fee, which they said was better than having to pay for an extra night.
- The internet is horrible. My husband and I tried two different computers (one windows, one linux) and two different phones (samsung and iphone) and we couldn't get internet to last for >5 minutes without dropping. They say their internet is good -- don't trust it.
- The view of the ocean is from a small-ish window and the way they have the furniture set up, you can't really see the view from anywhere convenient (furniture set-up is also weird because they have a TV but nowhere really to sit and watch the TV). Also, it can get quite foggy, so most of the time we didn't see the view (although that is just the nature of the area).
- The yard is shared with you and and homeowner, and they can see you from their deck/living room, so you don't really have any privacy to enjoy the view. Also, they have a hot-tub on their deck and it looks quite inviting but you can't use it, and the deck is roped off.
- The fridge makes a lot of weird noises. They say to just turn down the settings to make the noise go away, but if you do that then obviously your food doesn't stay cold.
- Beware that parts of this place have low ceilings, I bumped my head a few times.
- The shower water only stays hot/warm for a few minutes.
