Breathtaking views around this lovely hotel.
We had a lovely stay, we booked a petite room, which is small but had everything we needed and very comfortable. The service was lovely and they have a particularly good breakfast. I advise the sausage bap! My only small criticism would be that I had the lamb for dinner and it was just one cutlet, one bite really so would have hoped for a little more, but the cheese after did the trick. Would stay again if I’m the area, the views and surrounding countryside is truly breathtaking.

Relaxing Stopover
Beautiful historic building, with great views of the neighboring countryside, and a great tree walk within the grounds. Ideal for a relaxing break. We only stayed for one night passing through and it was ideal. Fantastic veranda where you can real, with a cocktail, overlooking the countryside.

Characterful hotel in beautiful surroundings
Stayed three nights for the Green Man Festival. Hotel has late breakfasts which suited us. Two mile walk to festival site which is very dark for return walk at night! Loads of outdoor activities available on the doorstep of the hotel.

Fit for a Spartan!
Myself and my brother were staying at Gliffaes for just one night before our Spartan race in Glasnusk park. The grounds the hotel was in were beautiful as was the hotel. The service for the time we were there was impeccable and we would definitely recommend it.

Traditional Country House in rural setting
Ideal for a restful break. Glorious autumnal colours around the house. Log fires in the lounges and dining room. Bedroom comfortable and warm, slightly on the small size, but perfectly adequate. Minimal mobile signal but the WiFi was fine. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff, but the english of some of them could be better. Highly recommended.

Weekend break
On arrival at the hotel gates there is an expectation of grandeur and a fine luxurious country estate awaiting you. However, upon closer inspection of the main house along with the very basic decor and facilities, the feeling of grandeur is soon displaced by disappoint. The service was overal quite ordinary despite a very welcoming and accommodating receptionist, the barman's distinct lack of charisma and general unwillingness to offer any service was really quite off putting and frankly poor in comparison to that of a generic chain hotel like an Express by Holiday Inn, which usually cost about half of the room rates of this particular establishment.

Good hotel for summer walks or relaxing
Comfortable countryside hotel, suited to more mature couples, not really for families or business travellers. No fitness facilities, but good bar and excellent menu.

Gliffaes Country house hotel
Had a long weekend break and was stunned by this hotel, the setting is fantastic with views overlooking the river and valley, food to a high standard, staff all friendly and accomdating. other residents too are all sociable and friendly, we bumped into a group that have been going there every year for about 30 years. only downside was limited availability of room service but with a small amount of planning that wont be an issue

A great winter retreat.
We are a couple aged 60ish. Went looking for quiet, comfort, warmth (it was early March), big fires, countryside, chill out etc etc. And we found it here. What do you get? Remoteness, perched in woods over the RIver Usk. Extensive grounds leading down to the river. A big log fire and wood burning stoves (in public rooms). Warmth (even during bitterly cold days). Great service from friendly staff. We had a 'Cottage Room' away from the main building. This was a superb room. Huge with massive bed and warm as toast. Tons of hot water but the shower was a bit lacking - very weak. But great for having a huge hot bath after a long hill walk. The one thing you need to be aware of is that the only meals available in the evening are a choice of 2 or 3 course meals at £32 or £40 a head plus drinks of course (so budget £100 total for two). Superb cooking and worth the money. But if you are staying longer than a couple of nights (we stayed 4) then eating in the hotel starts to become very expensive. So much so that we only ate in two nights (went to Crickhowell the other two). If only there was a cheaper alternative such as bar food that would be a welcome addition. But, as I said, we'll be back!

Beautiful Country Hotel
I travel a lot for work and pleasure and it has to be said this is one of the nicest places I've stayed. I was travelling on a budget and the cheaper rooms are still very impressive. The old world charm of the hotel gives your stay a taste of what it must have been like in yesteryear and the grounds of the hotel are absolutely stunning. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant is excellent. The only drawback for the very fussiest of traveller is the fact that the nearest town is a short drive away which is slight inconvenient if you're partial to a drink. However, the reason for staying at this gorgeous location is really the ambiance of true, classy country living.

Hoping to return
I picked this hotel as I was off to the Welsh show and was struggling to find anything closer (it was still a 45 minute drive to the showground). The hotel is set in a lovely spot, very quiet and peaceful. We had booked a small double room, which was perfectly adequate for what we needed, although the shower was over the bath and you could not stand underneath it. The choice of digital TV channels was also limited, but as you are in a valley I wasn't surprised. The room was also very warm and neither my husband nor I slept particularly well even with the windows open. However, the staff were great, making sure that we had everything we needed. We ate in the restaurant in the evening where the food was lovely and they had a good selection of wines, however it was pricey. The view from the conservatory was fantastic. As we were leaving before breakfast the following morning they did us a breakfast tray the night before. One thing we did notice upon leaving in the morning was a tandem bike which you could borrow from the hotel. The hotel also sells fishing licences, so I would imagine that it is a fantastic spot to do some salmon fishing. In summary the hotel is great, the staff couldn't do enough to help and it is in a lovely spot. The food was pricey, but worth it. We are hoping to go back at some point in the future and stay for longer as one night wasn't long enough.
