Trimnells House is a former farm house,in the heart of Colerne Village .
You’ll love the quiet ambience, with two pubs within walking distance,
A short drive to Bath, Castle Combe and Lacock.
Our house has large en suited rooms that are ideally suited to groups of friends and families. The house is surrounded by gardens and has ample parking on the drive.
The guest accommodation is on the ground and first floor.
The 2nd floor appartment and single storey granny annexe are not included.
The house is ideally placed for combining the enjoyment of rural South West England with the delights of exploring the areas rich and varied history. Both Georgian Bath and access to The Cotswold Way are only a few miles away. Situated only 15 minutes drive from the M4 we are also within easy reach of Bristol & Swindon (within 30 minutes) and Cardiff & Cheltenham (within 1 hour).
Stay at Trimnells House if you want a venue for a group of friends or family .
Colerne is a friendly welcoming village with a shop and village store which also has a post office. 2 pubs including the Fox and Hounds which serves reasonably priced food,or the Six Bells which often has a takeaway van in the car park serving food, both pubs have gardens.
There are also 2 clubs that serve drinks that welcome visitors staying with us.
The Fox and Hounds and Liberal club regularly host local musical events
Alternatively, you may wish to eat at Lucknam Park, where chef Hywel Jones holds a Michelin star, who knows, you may bump into one of the celebrities that stay there.
Recently Rowan Atkinson hit the national news after many villagers and pets were disturbed by a firework display at Lucknam Park arranged by him .I've heard that when Nicholas Cage lived locally he ate at the restaurant and Robbie Williams has enjoyed the pool in the spa.
We once had Kate Middletons parents stay here to attend a local wedding. They were turned away at the local pub for food because they were too busy and nobody recognised them. That's how crazy it gets here folks! I could go on about the time a Texan billionaires daughter took over Lucknam Park Hotel for her wedding but that's another story...or how a guest bumped into local Ex Bath Rugby star Chris Lilley and went home with a team strip!
Hopefully this gives you an idea of the ambience of the area. I will just mention that Colerne residents are known as Colerne donkeys. This relates to a story regarding the burial of a donkey in the graveyard with its hooves protruding. Don't ask me to explain, nor explain why there is no minute hand on the Church clock!
Trimnells offers guests the chance to enjoy village life in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty,on the edge of the Cotswold way. They can enjoy peace and tranquility whilst being close to nearby tourist attractions. They can walk to country pubs in a friendly unspoiled village just off the tourist track where visitors of all kinds are welcomed including many overseas visitors who have described Colerne as "a bit of old England". We believe by this they mean that locals will greet you and talk in the street and pubs not Local facilities include golf, clay pigeon shooting, quad bikes, go karts, paddle boards, escape rooms ,axe throwing etc.
There are also 2 parks/play areas within the village.
If you want more information on some points, just send an enquiry.
Bath is a short drive away ,theTherma Spa is a popular venue for our guests. There are too many places to visit in Bath to list here.
Past guests comment on how much they enjoy our gardens ,where children can play whilst adults eat and drink.Children seem very excited when they arrive. Perhaps it's the imposing and slightly 'Hogwarts' exterior of the house which they explore energetically before moving on to the walled garden with its (fenced) fish pond, fruit trees and chicken run where they find our chickens living in a children's playhouse converted into a chicken house. Our hens are rescued from slaughter they enjoy their new found freedom in a large run to the side of the house. Children may feed the chickens and collect the eggs and seem to enjoy just watching them. (They are like little dinosaurs strutting around complete with the odd fight!)In the garden you may also meet garden our cat called Salem and our giant continental rabbit called Sabrina
Groups from large cities, enjoy the peace and quiet and slower pace of a village and leave with batteries recharged.
Film buffs and families who want to keep children entertained may wish to visit nearby Castle Combe where scenes from Stardust, the first Dr Doolittle and Warhorse were filmed, and Lacock where scenes from Harry Potter and numerous costume dramas were filmed. William Fox Talbot undertook some early pioneering work on photography in Lacock Abbey where you will find a Museum of photography The village and Abbey are owned by the National Trust and preserved for posterity.
Guests have access to the gardens, car park, ground and first floors.
The second floor self contained appartment and single storey ground floor granny annexe are owner occupied
Accessability
The ground floor bedroom has a level access shower (a shower stool +/or grab rail can be provided upon request)
A ramp is available for wheelchair access to the single step at the front door. There is level access to the garden and car park(gravel)
