"I have not stayed here for years and was surprised to see that its still a Brend Hotel ( family hotel). I went for breakfast and it was a traditional waiter service breakfast eg you are shown to a table, another waiter takes your order, you choose the items you want and its freshly cooked ( no food sitting under a heated light)"

"Our entire experience at this property was nothing short of amazing. The cottage was beautiful and cozy, and the explorable land was incredible and undeniably peaceful. The land was wonderfully maintained and secluded, providing a feeling of safety and tranquility. Inside the cottage there was everything that we needed (a microwave, fridge, small freezer, cooker, washing machine, etc), as well as a beautiful log burner that the hosts had made sure was well-stocked. The beds were very comfortable and we all had a great nights sleep. Our hosts were kind and very hospitable, providing us with a sweet welcome hamper, showing us around the property and encouraging us to look around and explore the woodland, meadow, and pond. Would most definitely recommend this cottage! "

"I found The Royal & Fortescue to be a lovely comfortable place to stay in the centre of Barnstaple very close to all amenities including the bus station which was so handy for getting to other near by attractions. The hotel is very clean and welcoming. We had a really nice relaxing stay and if in Barnstaple again would be more than happy to stay again."

"Stayed as a group of 13 lads for my brother's stag party (a much more chilled out affair than it sounds) the house was perfect with plenty of space for socialising, cooking and games. Were hoping to make our "Lads Holiday" an annual event and would definitely stay again! "

"This was ideal for me. I loved it here. It was really peaceful. I couldn't hear a thing apart from the birds and the occasional sheep. I stayed for 4 days and I wished it could have been longer. There is no TV in the hut which also suits me to the ground. The wi-fi is excellent so if you do want to watch something on an I pad or tablet you will have no problem with the reception. There was a nice touch with tea making facilities and scones provided for the 4 days that I was there. I cannot recommend this place highly enough."
