"It is a beautiful place to be; right on the bluff! I like the fact that you can walk along the bluff and go down to the beach via stairs. The stairs are pretty easy to maneuver so need for worry there. The pier was within walking distance as well. There were some really good restaurants in Pismo Beach. We recommend the Italian restaurant for sure. the name is Guiseppes (not sure on the spelling). And you have to have one of the cinnamon rolls at The Old West Cinnamon place. Delicious!! It's very relaxing place and that's what we went for. I would stay there again. I recommend a first floor room as the fire pits are outside your room and you can hear the waves all night."

"Solid breakfast! Right off the freeway but don’t hear it. The bar and a drink voucher was great daily!"

"Older property showing its age outside but interior of room was clean and well appointed. Outside asthetics were a bit disappointing as the Front building of property was under renovation but not disclosed at the time the reservation was made. Motel is in a good location on Shell Beach. FIREPITS by the bluffs were a BIG plus and are available on first come first serve basis."

"Portola is always the first choice to stay when I’m in Monterey. They have lovely ambience and the rooms are clean and staff is always nice. Also, they are so close to all the attractions."
