Balcary House Hotel

"We had a beautiful quiet room overlooking the gardens. Breakfast was good - items such as eggs and tomatoes were fresh cooked and hot; meat products were sometimes lukewarm. Service was good. Just a bit disappointed that there was no availability of meals/dinner in the evening- a light lunch was available until 6pm. Would help residents to know this beforehand but that might put off people booking. Monday night was difficult with most eateries closed and we could only find a run of the mill Wetherspoons."

"Hotel and spa are stunning. Staff are friendly. Had a bad experience in the Charlie’s restaurant and the clubhouse cafe/spike bar. We headed for lunch in the clubhouse when we arrived as we liked the look of the menu, however we were told that a few of the items were unavailable due to a gas fault so this was fine but still depleted our choices. We ordered soup, pizza and haggis Bon Bon’s. The soup and Bon Bon’s were lovely but the pizza looked like it was microwaved and wasn’t very tasty, the meal came to £50 which I thought was extremely expensive for a snack menu. Then we had a reservation at Charlie’s restaurant for dinner, we chose the chateaubriand steak which is listed as a sharing option. However when it arrived it only came with one small portion of fries and a handful of spinach as well as a small peppercorn sauce. It was £95 and I would say it was only enough to feed one person, we had to order extra sides. We also tried to order a bottle of prosecco and were told that they had none left. We were told we could have champagne to which the cheapest bottle was £85 and as a young couple we were not willing to pay that. Overall the restaurant was extremely disappointing for such a great hotel. This is our second time at the hotel and we had a much nicer time on our last visit where we ate in the stateroom lounge but they have since changed the menu and it didn’t suit us hence why we went to Charlie’s."

"The manager seva absolutely makes this hotel , from The moment we opened the door to leaving , nothing was to much trouble , his breakfasts are cooked to order and to perfection. Hotel itself could do with some updating and the kitchen isn't open for evening meals , this is a hotel that's not in walking distance to any restaurants , seva recommend a Indian restaurant that could deliver and it was gorgeous, so make sure your prepared The hotel was perfect for us as we were on the motorbike and theres some beautiful roads and scenery Behind the hotel are some self contained cabins ( not part of the hotel ) and behind those is a beautiful area with a pond and picnic tables We would absolutely go back to this hotel Parking is at the side of the hotel , the hotel is up a tree lined drive way and not once did we worry about the bike."

"Lovely room however the large radiators were belting out high heat all the time and they could not be turned off in your room, the temperature was like a sauna. A fan was provided but hardly took the edge off the sweltering temperature. The windows could not be unlocked so no air in the room. Such a shame or it would have been perfect."

Otterburn Castle

"We had a wonderful time at the castle,everyone was friendly and helpful. The castle itself is amazing with oak panelling all around. We cannot praise them enough and wish them all the very best as they take the castle into the future."
