"The dinner was very memorable and I would give it 10/10. However, the room we stayed in feels very dated and not very well maintained. "Yufuin Gems was the perfect choice for my short stay. Located one block from the train station and just a few doors from the bus station, logistics were extremely simple. It’s also .6 km from the West trailhead for Mount Yufu, the reason for my trip. Walking through Yufuin from the hotel is an ease. The room was very large, extremely clean. The bath was a shower and a huge comfy soaking tub, which was handy after my nine mile hike. Downstairs the check-in desk also serves as a really cute cafe/bar staffed by the nicest and most helpful workers. If I ever travel to Yufuin again, I’ll stay at Gems!"

"There are three cats! One of them (orange tabby) was meow-ing outside our room and we went out to pat it. Staff were very friendly. The room was large for the three of us, and the futons were comfortable. There is a small AEON mall nearby. Inside there's a supermarket and DAISO. The supermarket closes at 10pm, so you don't have to worry about supper. The prices are pretty reasonable too! Cheaper than the conbini. It's a 20min walk to Yufuin Floral Village, but it's a very nice walk (provided you walk in the morning, before the sun coomes out). We went in August, and the heat was unbearable at times. There are bus options too, but the frequency is limited. They offer stargazing tour as well. It was 30 min of travelling (to and fro) and 10 min of stargazing, for 1000yen. Not worth imo, because the tour guide/driver will be using a torchlight to help participants take photos (because the location offered a nightview of Yufuin below). We couldn't see the stars very well because of this, which defeats the purpose of the tour."
