The area was typical city that is a little run down but didn't feel unsafe. Was hard at first to figure out getting in to check in because the entance blended into the buildings. The staff was wonderful and the hotel itself was very nice and clean.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spotless and large. The breakfast buffet has lots of options with one or two staff members constantly replenishing the containers and responding to your requests. One morning while we were there they even made individual smoothies to order. It's a block from Five Points so there are numerous restaurants within easy walking distance. Perfect place to stay if you're in town to see the Civil Rights era museums -- all are about a mile or two away and there's free or cheap metered parking near them.
