Arcos sits dramatically perched atop a defensible limestone ridge. Makes since, given that it came to prominence as a frontier town for the Moors in the 12th century. The old town is a charming mix of whitewashed houses and stone walls set amid a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets. Stay a night or two at a small hotel in the old town and spend the day wandering about.
Saint Peter watching over his flock. The 18th-century facade is a Baroque design plastered onto a 14th-century church, that itself was built atop the remains of an Arab fortress.
At the apex of Arcos' old town stands this odd 16th-century church. The building dates from the 14th century, but when renovations were performed in the 16th century the outdated Mudejar style was jettisoned in favor of late Gothic, including an ornate Plateresque doorway on the west side. In the 18th century a Baroque belfry was added, completing this eclectic church.

Unfortunately, the large town square in front of the church has been repurposed as the town's largest car park, marring the view a bit.
